PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Kravichenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Oleg Kravichenko has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Oleg Kravichenko seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oleg Kravichenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joey James!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kravichenko scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kravichenko throws out the jab.

Kravichenko throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent James stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kravichenko as he avoids it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kravichenko moves away.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

James shoots in looking for a takedown. Kravichenko tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kravichenko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kravichenko looks to land a right hand but James moved out of range.
Kravichenko connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
James closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

James closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kravichenko quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kravichenko is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

James is in close to Kravichenko's body, working some short punches and elbows.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

James shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kravichenko's guard.

James dives in and grabs Kravichenko's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kravichenko pushes down on James's head and hops out.

Kravichenko lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

James closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kravichenko uses his free foot to push down on James's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for James.

Kravichenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
