Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Stiebler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zach Byrne! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stiebler takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Danga de danga de dang - Stiebler scores with a four punch combination! A right-left combo lands from Stiebler. No joy there for Stiebler, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Stiebler misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Byrne swinging wildly here.
Stiebler feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Byrne's calf. Stiebler lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Byrne goes for a double leg but Stiebler avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stiebler continues to drive forward. Byrne looks winded! A slapping leg kick lands for Stiebler.
Byrne shoots for a double leg takedown but Stiebler sprawls well. He's pushed Byrne's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Stiebler throws a one two combo.
Stiebler lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Stiebler tries to bum rush Byrne with a series of wild strikes but Byrne uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Byrne takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stiebler looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Byrne blocks a head kick by Stiebler.
Stiebler misses with a jab, cross combination.
Phil Stiebler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stiebler stalks Byrne and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Byrne's face. Byrne staggers backwards, shaken. Byrne throws a body punch but Stiebler moves out of range. Stiebler could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Stiebler scores with a head kick. Byrne tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Stiebler swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Despite the aggression on Byrne's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Stiebler lands a two punch combo.

This has been an exciting period of action! Stiebler fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. A right-left combo lands from Stiebler. Stiebler lands a head kick. Byrne smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Stiebler throws a head kick but Byrne moves out of range.
Byrne tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Stiebler jabs Byrne to the body, keeping him at a distance. Stiebler throws a right hand that Byrne ducks under and follows up with a left that Byrne also avoids with ease. Byrne is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Stiebler with a body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters circling - Byrne throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Byrne dodges the punch combination from Stiebler.
Byrne moves into range and clinches up with Stiebler. Stiebler wants to get back to striking at distance but Byrne won't allow it.
Stiebler wants to break free but Byrne has control.
Stiebler can't break the clinch.
Stiebler is trying to force a seperation but Byrne has the dominant position. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Byrne has Stiebler pressed against the cage, preventing Stiebler from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Byrne keeps control of Stiebler as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Byrne pulls guard. Stiebler wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Byrne's closed guard. He's half up but Byrne has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Byrne pivots and extends the arm, Stiebler falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Byrne! Well done that man!
