Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Masters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marco McComiskey! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masters misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. McComiskey connects with a right hand. Masters shakes it off. McComiskey closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Masters quickly recovers to half guard. Masters works his way to full guard. Good work. Masters has an active guard here but McComiskey has managed to pass into half guard.
McComiskey is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Masters has managed to free his arm - good work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. McComiskey is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Masters defends it well. Masters is trying is best to control the position here. McComiskey is keen to just control but Masters is a slippery customer. McComiskey thows a huge punch but Masters dodges it nicely.
Masters tries to kick McComiskey off but McComiskey keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. McComiskey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. McComiskey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Masters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Masters looking for submissions off his back. McComiskey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Masters keeps working. McComiskey tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. McComiskey is looking to take this fight into the clinch. McComiskey misses with a series of wild punches.
McComiskey tries for a takedown but Masters circles away easily and Masters counters with a three punch combo that has McComiskey backing up. McComiskey nods at Masters to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Masters throws a head kick but McComiskey moves out of range.
Masters tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McComiskey is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. McComiskey closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Masters quickly recovers to half guard. McComiskey prevents Masters from improving his position. McComiskey looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. McComiskey not landing any meaningful shots this time. McComiskey trying to control the pace. Masters wants to improve his position but McComiskey is controlling well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters is trying to control but McComiskey manages to pass to mount!
McComiskey avoids the attempt from Masters to control. McComiskey prevents Masters from getting the reversal. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. McComiskey moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Masters has worked his arm free - good work by Masters!
Masters is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marco McComiskey dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
McComiskey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Masters. McComiskey is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Masters looks for a takedown but McComiskey sprawls well. Excellent takedown into side control there by McComiskey. McComiskey in side control, just content to control the action for now. Masters is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McComiskey is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. You can see the frustration on Masters's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Masters misses with a strike from the bottom. Masters struggling a bit here. Masters is trying to get back to half guard. Masters is not content to let McComiskey control the position. Masters is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McComiskey asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. McComiskey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Masters's waist but Masters gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McComiskey off to one side. As McComiskey looks to move away, Masters throws a big counter combo but McComiskey just gets out of the way. Masters tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McComiskey swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Masters. That's going to take a lot out of him. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as McComiskey checks a leg kick. A head kick misses from Masters. McComiskey is looking to clinch but Masters is avoiding it.
Masters tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Masters shoots in looking for a takedown. McComiskey tries to sprawl out of it but Masters keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McComiskey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Masters throws a sloppy head kick and McComiskey moves out of range easily. McComiskey darts in looking for a takedown but Masters gets double underhooks and turns McComiskey into the cage. Masters shoots in looking for a takedown but McComiskey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Masters's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McComiskey gets a takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McComiskey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Masters is just riding it out for now. McComiskey eventually gives up the hold. Masters is trying to control but McComiskey manages to pass to mount!
Masters is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McComiskey tries to control but Masters wriggling away. Masters is trying desperately to improve position. McComiskey cracks Masters with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
McComiskey trying to control but Masters is having none of it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marco McComiskey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
McComiskey dives in and grabs Masters's left leg, looking for a takedown. Masters pushes down on McComiskey's head and hops out. McComiskey feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Masters keeping moving, preventing McComiskey from controlling successfully. McComiskey is fighting to break Masters's control of his arms but Masters is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Masters tries to land a sweep but no joy. Masters is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McComiskey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Masters is keeping the position for now. McComiskey pushing down on Masters's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. McComiskey not landing any meaningful shots this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Masters tries to roll over but McComiskey keeps him under control. McComiskey working over Masters with some ground and pound. Masters looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Masters trying to hold on to McComiskey's head to control him but McComiskey postures up.
McComiskey has been the more effective fighter overall so far. McComiskey performing his best blanket impression for a moment. McComiskey moves into full mount! Masters won't be happy about that!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Masters regains half guard. Marco McComiskey has got the better of the ground game so far. McComiskey trying to mount his opponent but Masters defends it. Masters wants to control but McComiskey passes into side.
McComiskey working away. Masters isn't going anywhere.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Masters tries to bench press McComiskey off him but McComiskey keeps the position. Masters is trying to escape the position but McComiskey is controlling the position. McComiskey works to advance to full mount. Masters defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Masters is wriggling around trying to escape.
McComiskey controlling his opponent. McComiskey punishing his opponent with strikes. Masters keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McComiskey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. McComiskey lands with some strikes. McComiskey manages to capitalize on a mistake by Masters to take his back! McComiskey is looking for the choke from the back position but Masters is controlling his hands well. McComiskey is landing with strikes. Masters can't take much more of this. McComiskey struggling to land strikes to the head as Masters covers up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Masters is keeping busy.
Tommy Masters has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Marco McComiskey is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. McComiskey just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Marco McComiskey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got McComiskey winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
