Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nelson Preto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Jaa!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ben Hemmingworth and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Preto gets tackled into the cage by Jaa. Jaa maintains the clinch.
Jaa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jaa leaves Preto with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jaa lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Jaa gets a clinch.
Jaa successfully pulls guard.
Preto trying to control but Jaa is working from the bottom.
Preto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jaa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Preto stops Jaa from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jaa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jaa keeping moving, preventing Preto from controlling successfully.
Preto throws a big right hand that misses.
Jaa kicks Preto off and gets to his feet.
Preto fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jaa avoids it really well and circles away.
Jaa throws a counter combo.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Preto closes the distance and pushes Jaa back into the cage.
Preto tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jaa smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nelson Preto. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Preto shoots in but no luck this time.
Jaa wants to counter with a clinch but Preto pushes him away.
Jaa clinches up against the cage.
Preto decides to pull guard.
Preto controls Jaa momentarily but Jaa frees himself.
Jaa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Preto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Preto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jaa's guard.
Jaa preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Preto stops Jaa from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Preto thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Preto slips nicely into half guard.
Jaa has hold of Preto's hands but Preto slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Preto prevents Jaa from standing back up.
Preto is looking to take a break and control but Jaa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Preto decides to stand up.
Preto looks to throw the jab but Jaa is out of range.
Preto shoots and misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Preto shoots in but Jaa avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jaa is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Preto has his takedown stuffed
and Jaa counters with a head kick that drops Preto!
Preto is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jaa throws an elbow that misses. Preto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jaa's guard. Nice move by Preto!
Preto working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Preto gets to his feet. Jaa looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Preto tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jaa defends well and Preto ends up having to push Jaa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Preto misses with a takedown
and Jaa counters with a flying knee that drops Preto! Jaa dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tony Jaa!
