PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matthias Pettigrew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Tucker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matthias Pettigrew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Devin Tucker!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettigrew tries to close the distance and clinch but Tucker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pettigrew stuffs the takedown.

Tucker scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Tucker is taking a breather. Pettigrew says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tucker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pettigrew does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pettigrew gets back to full guard.

Tucker gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettigrew tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tucker defends well and Pettigrew ends up having to push Tucker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Tucker fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pettigrew, pushing him back against the cage.

Tucker wants the takedown. Pettigrew is fighting it off but Tucker persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Pettigrew's guard against the cage.

Tucker trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettigrew is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pettigrew is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tucker defends well.
Tucker looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Pettigrew looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tucker is one step ahead there.
Pettigrew might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tucker lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Tucker looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tucker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Tucker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tucker throws a head kick but Pettigrew moves out of range.
Pettigrew attempts a counter takedown but Tucker avoids it well and moves away.

Pettigrew in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Sloppy strikes there by Pettigrew.
Tucker is trying to improve his position.
Pettigrew is looking to take a break and control but Tucker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tucker wants to control but Pettigrew postures up.
Pettigrew could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pettigrew gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettigrew throws an elbow that misses. Tucker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pettigrew's guard. Nice move by Tucker!

Tucker takes the fight into the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Pettigrew throws an elbow but misses.

Tucker has clasped his hands together around Pettigrew's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Pettigrew takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Tucker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pettigrew keeps working.
Pettigrew manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tucker's best efforts.
Tucker wants to take a breather but Pettigrew is having none of it.
Pettigrew is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tucker's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tucker's back!

Tucker tries to escape but Pettigrew has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Tucker wants to get back to his feet.
Pettigrew is punishing Tucker with some ground and pound.
Tucker trying to control the hands but Pettigrew breaks the grip.
Pettigrew is throwing shots to the body but Tucker manages to wriggle free. Pettigrew pounces on him again and ends up in Tucker's guard.
Pettigrew passes Tucker's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Pettigrew not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Pettigrew is looking to take a break and control but Tucker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pettigrew wants to free his trapped foot but Tucker is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Tucker is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pettigrew throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Devin Tucker will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Tucker shoots in looking for a takedown. Pettigrew tries to sprawl out of it but Tucker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pettigrew manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tucker tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pettigrew manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pettigrew drops down looking for a counter takedown but Tucker sprawls and moves away.

Pettigrew throws a hook but Tucker avoids it easily.
Tucker slips under a jab.
Tucker appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Pettigrew fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A countering left hand to the body from Tucker misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pettigrew enables Tucker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pettigrew manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pettigrew escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tucker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tucker is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Pettigrew had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tucker defends it easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Pettigrew gets caught flat footed, as Tucker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tucker working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pettigrew's head.
Devin Tucker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Pettigrew has his foot on Tucker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tucker works his way back into a safe position though.

Well Tucker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
