Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Catfish Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Esch!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith pushes Esch up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Esch misses with a hook to the ribs.
Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Esch misses with a body punch.
Esch gets through Smith's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Esch swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Esch can't break the clinch.
Esch fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Esch misses with the head strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A hook to the body from Esch.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Esch clips Smith with a right and a left that makes him do the chicken dance for a couple of seconds. He touched his left hand down on the canvas so the referee steps between the fighters to give Smith a standing 8 count before we can continue the bout.


Smith is rocked!


It looks like Catfish Smith has been cut.
Smith is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Esch circles away before darting back in with a big straight right hand. It connects beautifully and sends Smith tumbling to the canvas! He's out cold! Esch wins by KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Eric Esch!
A very excited looking Eric Esch made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
