PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jericho Datu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Tiger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jericho Datu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Tiger!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tiger doesn't manage to clinch there - Datu circles away.

Tiger feints and as Datu raises his hands in defense, Tiger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Datu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tiger wanted to stand there but Datu had control of the position.

Datu looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Tiger has picked Datu up and slammed him! Datu can't keep hold of the triangle and Tiger manages to pass to side control!
Datu is trying to buck Tiger off.

Tiger lands a few punches from side control.

Tiger decides to stand back up. Tiger steps back and let's Datu get back to his feet.
Tiger fails with a takedown attempt.

Datu fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tiger moves out of range of the body kick from Datu.

It looks like Jericho Datu has been cut.
Tiger doesn't manage to clinch there - Datu circles away.

Tiger fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Datu sprawls well initially but Tiger persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Tiger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Datu is looking for a sweep. Tiger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tiger thows a huge punch but Datu dodges it nicely.

Datu is staying active underneath Tiger, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tiger tries to pass to full mount but Datu defends it.

Datu actively working from the bottom here.

Datu is breathing heavily.
Datu taking some punishment here, with Tiger in his half guard.
Datu wants to improve his position but Tiger is controlling well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tiger shoots for a double leg takedown but Datu sprawls well. He's pushed Tiger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Datu stuffs the takedown.
Jericho Datu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Tiger.

Datu gets caught flat footed, as Tiger shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tiger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Datu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Datu looking for a sweep. Not yet Datu, not yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tiger trying to control the position from guard on top but Datu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Datu is on top in guard.

Tiger has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Datu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Datu passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Datu working the head and body with strikes.

Datu stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Datu buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from Datu.
Jericho Datu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Datu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tiger moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Datu drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Datu trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Datu lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Datu cracks Tiger with a solid left hand.
Tiger has momentary wrist control but Datu slips an elbow through the middle.

Datu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Datu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Tiger dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jericho Datu's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Tiger tries to close the distance and clinch up but Datu swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Datu throws a low kick, looking for Tiger's leg but Tiger calmly moves out of range.
Tiger tries a head kick but it misses.
Datu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tiger moves out of range of the body kick.
Datu throws out a leg kick but Tiger moves out of range and Datu only half commits.
Tiger blocks a head kick by Datu.
Jericho Datu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Datu scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Datu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Tiger rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Datu's guard! Nice work there by Tiger!
Tiger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Datu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tiger advances position into side control!
Datu is letting Tiger control him for a moment.
Tiger is looking to take a break and control but Datu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Datu manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tiger's best efforts.
Tiger tries to stand but can't do so whilst Datu controls his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Datu is pressing down on Tiger's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Datu tries to strike from the bottom.

Datu is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Tiger has his hands clasped together but Datu extends an breaks Tiger's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Datu.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jericho Datu!
