PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maxim Palkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cartel Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palkin comes to the cage accompanied by Steam Paves Its Way (The Machine). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxim Palkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cartel Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Palkin throws a series of punches but Lopez avoids them all with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palkin scores with a sloppy right hand. Lopez should have avoided that one.
Lopez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Palkin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Palkin clinches.
Lopez tries to score a body lock takedown but Palkin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Palkin stalling.
Lopez is looking for a takedown.
Maxim Palkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cartel Lopez.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lopez is pressed up against the cage. Palkin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lopez down to the mat. Lopez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Lopez goes for a double leg but Palkin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Palkin continues to drive forward.
Palkin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lopez at a distance.
Lopez shoots in for a double leg but Palkin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Palkin seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lopez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Palkin's guard.

Palkin pushes Lopez off and scrambles back to his feet.

Palkin pushes Lopez up against the cage in a clinch.
Palkin wants a takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lopez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Palkin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Lopez tightens his grip and picks Palkin up, before dumping him to the ground. Palkin manages to land in guard.

Palkin manages to escape and get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lopez is defended easily by Palkin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxim Palkin dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Lopez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palkin won't allow Lopez to sweep him here.
Maxim Palkin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Palkin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Palkin stays in close to Lopez's body and controls the position.
Lopez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Palkin's guard.

Lopez works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Lopez is trying to work for a kimura but Palkin is defending well.
Palkin controlling the position well.
Palkin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Lopez seems to be looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Palkin is trying to maintain the position but Lopez is very close to passing his half guard.

Lopez is working for a kimura but Palkin is defending it quite comfortably.

Lopez is trying for a kimura here. Palkin looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Lopez wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Cartel Lopez!
