Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Baikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ello Mate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ivan Baikov has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ivan Baikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ello Mate!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baikov clinches up with Mate and pushes him back against the cage.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Mate with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Mate is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Baikov throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mate blocks it with crossed arms.
Baikov creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Baikov creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Mate's defenses.


It looks like Ello Mate has been cut.
Baikov with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Mate is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Baikov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mate creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Baikov's defenses.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Baikov prevents Mate from getting back to his feet.

Mate avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mate wants to sweep here but Baikov controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mate forces Baikov back against the cage and clinches.

Mate has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Baikov is trying to keep an underhook but Mate manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Baikov is trying to control but can't.

Mate looks to land a strike but Baikov avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mate lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mate fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mate has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Baikov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Baikov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mate is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Baikov to the mat. Baikov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Mate postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Baikov shoots and misses

Baikov wants to improve his position but Mate is controlling well.
Baikov trying to control but Mate postures up.

Mate has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mate has managed to clinch.
Mate tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Baikov just stands there and leans against the cage.

Baikov keeps the fight on the outside.
Baikov throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Mate shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Baikov as he jumps to the side.

Ivan Baikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ello Mate.
Baikov throws a head kick but Mate moves out of range.

and Mate counters with a nice double leg into side control. Baikov won't be happy with that.

Baikov tries to control but Mate manages to take his back.

Mate has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Baikov.
Mate wants to control the position but Baikov frees himself and scrambles - Mate manages to regain control in side control.

A control attempt from Baikov but he's now mounted!
Mate lands a heavy elbow.
Baikov tries to hold on but Mate postures up.

Mate blocks Baikov's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Mate breaks from Baikov's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Mate landing strikes from the mount and Baikov is in trouble!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mate moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Baikov has worked his arm free - good work by Baikov!
Baikov regains half guard, as Mate was trying to land strikes.
Mate is thwarting Baikov's attempts to control the position.
Baikov controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ello Mate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Mate counters with a takedown into side control.

Mate decides to stand back up. Mate steps back and let's Baikov get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Baikov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mate sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Mate counters with a single leg into guard. Baikov didn't expect that.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baikov is on top in guard.

Mate is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Baikov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Ivan Baikov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, if Baikov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Ello Mate comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mate winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
