Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Reico Vanlaque! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John McClaine! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vanlaque shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McClaine as he avoids it easily. McClaine fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vanlaque sprawls well initially but McClaine persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Vanlaque wants to improve his position but McClaine is controlling well.
Vanlaque actively working from the bottom here. McClaine working over Vanlaque with some ground and pound. Vanlaque looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Vanlaque looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. McClaine seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vanlaque does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vanlaque tries to get to full guard but McClaine has control of the leg. McClaine is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vanlaque is refusing to be controlled, as McClaine sits in half guard. McClaine has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. McClaine is looking for a kimura but Vanlaque is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McClaine to get the leverage. Vanlaque slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. McClaine avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Vanlaque is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Vanlaque escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McClaine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Vanlaque is breathing heavily. Vanlaque is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. McClaine passes into half guard. McClaine scoring with strikes to the body and head. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Vanlaque gets back to full guard.
McClaine wants to control from the top but Vanlaque keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McClaine preventing the sweep. McClaine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vanlaque swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vanlaque throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
McClaine landing with the ground and pound. McClaine controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vanlaque has momentary wrist control but McClaine slips an elbow through the middle. McClaine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vanlaque swivels though and keeps the full guard. McClaine postures up and lands a big shot to Vanlaque's brow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vanlaque escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McClaine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Vanlaque keeping full guard, as McClaine tries to pass. Vanlaque throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! McClaine escapes and throws Vanlaque's legs to the side, diving into side control! Vanlaque is not content to let McClaine control the position. McClaine tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McClaine has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Vanlaque regains half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vanlaque has hold of McClaine's hands but McClaine slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Vanlaque moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. McClaine trying to control the position from guard on top but Vanlaque is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vanlaque escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McClaine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. McClaine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vanlaque swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vanlaque looking for a guillotine here but McClaine defends easily.
McClaine wants to control from the top but Vanlaque keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John McClaine dominated that round. That's time! Vanlaque's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Vanlaque shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and McClaine counters with a takedown into side control. Vanlaque looks to move to half guard but instead McClaine has passed into mount! Damn! Vanlaque really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Vanlaque is bucking up trying to escape but McClaine cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Vanlaque is looking to improve his position but McClaine isn't that keen on the idea. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, McClaine cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
McClaine in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Vanlaque keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. McClaine controlling his opponent. McClaine landing strikes from the mount and Vanlaque is in trouble!

Vanlaque is trying to escape the mount but McClaine keeps good control and instead manages to take Vanlaque's back.
McClaine looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Vanlaque taps!
