The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haug misses with the combination.
It looked like Shaw wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Shaw throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Haug lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Haug throws a jab when Shaw was well out of range. Haug throws a hook but Shaw avoids it easily. Haug throws a hook to the side of Shaw's head but Shaw sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. An attempted straight right counter from Shaw misses the target. Haug shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Haug is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. It looks like Haug might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haug has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Shaw defend it? Haug steps over the head and cranks it - Shaw is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Haug!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ulf Haug! Ulf Haug spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
