The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustin throws a sloppy head kick
and Aoki counters with a stiff right hand.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gustin has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Gustin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Aoki misses with an attempted mid kick.
Gustin misses the shot to the body.

Aoki dives in for a single leg takedown but Gustin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Aoki paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Melvin Gustin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Gustin counters with a two punch combo.
Aoki throws an off balance right hand
and Gustin counters with a good, hard body kick but Aoki shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Tatsuya Aoki has been cut.
Gustin misses with a wild combination.
Gustin throws a hook but Aoki avoids it easily.
Aoki has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gustin finds it's way round the side to connect with Aoki's head.
A slow jab from Aoki misses its intended target.
Gustin tries to clinch but Aoki is having none of it.
Aoki tries to counter with a takedown but Gustin is quick to defend against it.
Gustin throws a left and a right that both miss
and Aoki counters with a nice uppercut.

Gustin lands a brutal head kick. Aoki looks out on his feet and Gustin throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
