Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Burnzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Alves has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chuck Burnzie!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves is looking to clinch.
Alves shoots in for a takedown but Burnzie shows good takedown defense.
Burnzie shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Alves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Burnzie manages to get himself to full guard.

Burnzie wants to stand and escape but Alves is having none of it.

Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burnzie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Alves kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Burnzie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alves just misses with a punch to the body.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alves tries to clinch but Burnzie moves out of range.

and Burnzie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Burnzie is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Alves is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burnzie tries to bum rush Alves with a series of wild strikes but Alves uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Burnzie counters with a shoot takedown. Alves fights it but they end up in guard.

Alves controls Burnzie momentarily but Burnzie frees himself.
Burnzie throws and elbow that misses. Alves uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Burnzie's guard. Nice move by Alves!

Alves wants to control from the top but Burnzie keeps moving.
Burnzie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Burnzie stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Alves.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves wants to improve his position but Burnzie is controlling well.

Burnzie slows the pace down in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Burnzie connects with a nice short shot to Alves's temple.

Burnzie is looking to advance position but Alves won't allow it.

Burnzie is trying to work for a kimura but Alves is defending well.
Alves trying to hold on to Burnzie's head to control him but Burnzie postures up.
Burnzie wants to pass to mount but Alves is defending the position.
Burnzie is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Alves misses the shot to the body.
Burnzie misses with a series of wild punches.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Alves.
Burnzie closes the distance but Alves moves to the side
and Alves counters with a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Burnzie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Burnzie throws a right and a left that Alves avoids nicely.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

and Burnzie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Alves!

Alves is in a horrible position here. Burnzie smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Burnzie controlling from mount.
Burnzie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Alves is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burnzie prevents Alves from getting the reversal.
Burnzie looking to control and managing it successfully.
Burnzie lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Burnzie lands a big elbow.
Burnzie controlling his opponent.
Alves keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chuck Burnzie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Burnzie winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
