Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Alvarioz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, TJ Mcgregor! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Alvarioz enables Mcgregor to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alvarioz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Mcgregor advances position into side control! Mcgregor just content to control the position. Mcgregor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Alvarioz is trying to control Mcgregor's posture but Mcgregor avoids it. Mcgregor misses with the ground and pound. Alvarioz taking punishment in the form of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mcgregor wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alvarioz, who protects the arm well. Mcgregor decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvarioz fails to land the takedown. Mcgregor manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alvarioz on his heels. He'll look to pass Alvarioz's guard now, I'm sure. Mcgregor sitting in guard here, content to control. Mcgregor decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. A combination from Mcgregor does no damage. As Mcgregor tries to get set, Alvarioz tries to push him back and clinch up but Mcgregor manages to avoid the attempt. Mcgregor misses with a straight left. Alvarioz feinted with a counter takedown. Mcgregor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mcgregor wants it to stay on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcgregor closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Alvarioz quickly recovers to half guard. Alvarioz is trying to maintain the position but Mcgregor is very close to passing his half guard. Mcgregor is nestled in close to Alvarioz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Mcgregor decides to stand and escape the position. Mcgregor gets a double leg takedown into Alvarioz's guard. Alvarioz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcgregor on the ground. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alvarioz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mcgregor has picked Alvarioz up and slammed him! Alvarioz can't keep hold of the triangle and Mcgregor manages to pass to side control! Alvarioz is breathing heavily. Mcgregor moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Mcgregor lands a nice forearm strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarioz takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Mcgregor is staying tight to Alvarioz's torso, preventing him from escaping. Let's hope that Mcgregor has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Mcgregor working the body and head with strikes. Alvarioz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Mcgregor decides to stand up, so the ref orders Alvarioz to his feet. Mcgregor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Mcgregor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. It looks like Mcgregor might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
TJ Mcgregor dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Mcgregor closes the distance and pushes Alvarioz back into the cage. Mcgregor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alvarioz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mcgregor defends well and Alvarioz ends up having to push Mcgregor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Mcgregor connects with a nice looking jab.
Alvarioz tries to keep at a distance but Mcgregor has taken the fight into the clinch. Mcgregor turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mcgregor manages to end up in side control. Mcgregor working the ground and pound. Mcgregor tries to advance to mount but Alvarioz denies him. Mcgregor slows the pace down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcgregor tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mcgregor working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Mcgregor drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Alvarioz trying to control the position.
Mcgregor forces his way into half guard. Alvarioz looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Mcgregor pushes past his half guard into mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcgregor controlling the pace for now. Mcgregor landing punches. Mcgregor scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Mcgregor lands a couple of good shots and Alvarioz has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. A bit of a pause in the action here. Mcgregor controlling the positon. Alvarioz is trying to defend against the choke here but Mcgregor has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Mcgregor Tightens the hold and Alvarioz taps out furiously! Mcgregor displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). TJ Mcgregor!
