Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vinicius Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Dirt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vinicius Costa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Vinicius Costa!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Dirt!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A solid leg kick lands there for Costa.
Dirt shoots in for a double leg but Costa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Good leg kick by Costa there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Vinicius Costa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dirt gets a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Costa.
Costa throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Dirt pulls guard.
Dirt trying to control the position.

Dirt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Costa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Costa avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Costa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Costa trying to control but Dirt is working from the bottom.
Our spies down at at London MMA Club inform us that Dirt has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Costa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dirt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dirt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Costa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dirt with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Costa is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dirt passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Costa!

Dirt wants to finish this one by submission but Costa is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dirt.
Dirt prevents Costa from getting the reversal.

Dirt looking to secure an arm triangle but Costa defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Costa can't escape the position.
Costa tries to hold on but Dirt postures up.
Costa is looking to improve his position but Dirt isn't that keen on the idea.
Costa has given up his back.

Dirt looking to break Costa's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Costa remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Dirt will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
You can see the frustration on Costa's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Dirt gets his hands free as Costa looks to control.
A lull in the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Costa tries to roll but Dirt sticks to his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Will Dirt go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Dirt is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Costa has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Costa just trying to survive but Dirt is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dirt has the hooks in. Costa is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Dirt is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Dirt dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Costa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
No luck for Dirt with that takedown attempt.
Dirt uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Costa has time to react.
Dirt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Costa tries to avoid it but Dirt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Costa to the ground. Costa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Vinicius Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Dirt.
Dirt has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dirt there as he acknowledges the shot.
Costa moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
We've been told by Costa's head coaches at Canadian Top Team that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Costa keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Costa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Costa fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Horrible takedown attempt by Dirt or perhaps it was just good defense by Costa, which made it look bad.
Dirt misses with a takedown attempt
and Costa counters with a nice uppercut.
Costa fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dirt.
Vinicius Costa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Costa scores with a jab to the head.


Dirt is rocked!
Costa cracks a nice hook into Dirt's ribs.
Dirt is still on wobbly legs! Can Costa finish him?
Dirt is breathing heavily.
Costa connects with a leg kick. Dirt looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Costa dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dirt. That did some damage!
Costa throws a leg kick which misses Dirt's front leg but catches the back leg as Dirt tries to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Costa.
Costa lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Costa moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Costa jabs at Dirt's body.
Costa dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dirt. That did some damage!

You can see that Dirt has visibly slowed down as a result of the leg kicks
Dirt takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Both fighters step back and shake their arms out. Costa engages and cracks Dirt with a massive lead left hook - Dirt tumbles to the floor, out cold! What a shot! Costa is delighted - all that hard work in training paid off!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Vinicius Costa!

A less than humble Vinicius Costa misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
