PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guido Gloom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eildon Heap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Guido Gloom has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Guido Gloom seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Guido Gloom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eildon Heap!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch! Gloom slams his shin into Heap's torso.
Gloom uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Heap has time to react.
We've been hearing reports that Gloom has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Gloom shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Heap makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Heap.
Gloom tries to free his leg and advance position but Heap is retaining full guard.
Gloom passes Heap's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gloom tries to pass the half guard into mount. Heap knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gloom missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Heap has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Heap preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Gloom wants to control from the top but Heap keeps moving.
Heap tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gloom is looking to pass into half guard but Heap pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Heap is in guard.

Heap must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Heap is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Heap throws a big right hand that misses.
Gloom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gloom is trying to control the position but Heap postures up.

Gloom is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gloom wants to sweep here but Heap controlling him for the moment.
Heap with a flurry of punches that miss.

Gloom is looking for a triangle but Heap pushes his legs off easily.

Heap throws an elbow that misses. Gloom uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Heap's guard. Nice move by Gloom!

Gloom passes into half guard.
Heap wants to improve his position but Gloom is controlling well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gloom connects with a nice short shot to Heap's temple.

Gloom is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Heap defends it well.
Gloom drops an elbow to the side of Heap's head.

Heap blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gloom.
Gloom trying to mount his opponent but Heap defends it.

Gloom is working for a kimura but Heap is defending it quite comfortably.
Heap is looking to improve his position.

Guido Gloom dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No luck for Gloom with that takedown attempt.
Gloom jabs Heap right on the nose. Heap blinks but takes it well.
Heap throws a looping overhand right but Gloom ducks down to avoid it.
Gloom has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Heap finds it's way round the side to connect with Gloom's head.
A solid leg kick lands there for Gloom.
Gloom throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gloom connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Gloom looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Heap is fending him off so far but Gloom persists. Nope, Heap circles away and we're back to standing.
Heap takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Heap throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gloom throws a leg kick which misses Heap's front leg but catches the back leg as Heap tries to avoid it.
Gloom misses with an uppercut.
A solid leg kick lands there for Gloom.
Heap moves in looking to clinch but Gloom pushes him off.
Heap slips under a jab.
It seemed like Heap was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Heap is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gloom.
Gloom half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Gloom throws a leg kick
enabling Heap to counter with a crisp jab.
Heap misses with a straight right.
Eildon Heap is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Heap throws a head kick that misses.
Heap throws a sloppy head kick

and Gloom counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Heap works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gloom throwing strikes from guard but Heap blocks nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gloom tries to free his leg and advance position but Heap is retaining full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gloom is working for a kimura but Heap is defending it quite comfortably.
Gloom wants to take a breather but Heap is having none of it.
Heap is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gloom's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gloom's back!
Heap throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Gloom!

Heap lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Gloom.
Gloom breaks Heap's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Heap tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gloom was well out of range. Poor timing from Heap.
Heap checks a leg kick.
Guido Gloom is winning the standup battle so far.
Heap missing with a left hand there. Gloom was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gloom feinted there with a counter leg kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gloom.
Gloom throws an overhand right that lands on Heap's shoulder, as Heap tries to avoid the shot.
Gloom pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Heap swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Gloom uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Heap.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gloom misses with a low kick as Heap jumps back.

Heap has closed the distance and engaged Gloom in a clinch.
Gloom has a couple of punches blocked by Heap.
Gloom tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Heap just stands there and leans against the cage.

Gloom working hard to break the clinch.
Heap blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Gloom scores with an uppercut up the middle.
With the fighters up against the cage, Heap throws an elbow but misses.
A short right from Gloom.
Gloom has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Heap blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Gloom makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Heap can't find room to land a body shot as Gloom controls the action.
Heap is pressed up against the cage. Gloom has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Heap down to the mat. Heap avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gloom keeps the fight on the outside.
Gloom changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Heap fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gloom is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Gloom pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
The fighters circling - Heap throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Heap throws a shot to the body.
A cross from Gloom lands.

Gloom closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gloom lands in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gloom postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Heap is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gloom, into his guard.

Gloom has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Heap can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Heap really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gloom. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Heap throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Well Gloom has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In defeat, Eildon Heap stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'm so handome I'm not surprised this guy was all over me!!'.
