Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mateusz Biernat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Duterte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Biernat comes to the cage accompanied by Circle of Life. Rodrigo Duterte has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mateusz Biernat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rodrigo Duterte! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Biernat tries for a takedown but Duterte circles away easily and Duterte counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. The fight moves into the clinch position. Duterte lands a nice knee to the body. A knee to the head by Duterte.
It looks like Mateusz Biernat has been cut. Biernat is trying to break the clinch but Duterte is controlling him. Duterte escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rodrigo Duterte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Duterte looks to clinch and Biernat counters with a one-two to the body. Duterte stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Biernat. Biernat closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Duterte's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Biernat won't allow Duterte to get back to his feet. Biernat thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Biernat won't allow Duterte to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Biernat controlling from the top position. Biernat with a flurry of punches that miss. Biernat has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Biernat drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Biernat jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Biernat's corner is telling him to maintain position. Biernat trying to control but Duterte is working from the bottom. Duterte is working an open guard so Biernat takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Biernat shoots in and drives through. Duterte sprawls well. Duterte throws a head kick that Biernat semi-blocks.
Duterte tries to clinch but Biernat moves out of range. Duterte moves in looking to clinch but Biernat pushes him off. Duterte closes the distance and pushes Biernat back into the cage. Biernat can't break the clinch.
Duterte's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Biernat throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Duterte's waist but Duterte gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Biernat off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mateusz Biernat. That's going to take a lot out of him. Biernat throws a series of punches but Duterte avoids them all with ease. Duterte throws a counter combo. Biernat gets the takedown into side control. Duterte throws Biernat to one side and escapes! Biernat is breathing heavily. Duterte closes the distance and clinches. Duterte landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
I was talking to Biernat's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duterte is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Biernat is defending well for now. Duterte misses with a knee to the head. Duterte looking to throw knees to the head but Biernat is blocking nicely.

Biernat pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Biernat ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Duterte shoots in but Biernat avoids the takedown attempt easily. A left and a right from Biernat both land. Nice combination.
It looks like Rodrigo Duterte has been cut. Biernat pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Duterte back to the cage. Biernat follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Biernat scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Biernat is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Duterte looks calm but he's in trouble here. Biernat gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Duterte is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Biernat lets go of the hold and Duterte can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mateusz Biernat! An out of breath Mateusz Biernat thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
