Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
42 - 38 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gordon Ramsay! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ramsay looks to score with a jab to the body but Johnson is just out of range. Johnson is looking to counter the offense by Ramsay and move into the clinch. Johnson walks into a stiff left hand from Ramsay. Ramsay has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Gordon Ramsay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ramsay shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ramsay gets slowly back to his feet. Johnson throws a big counter combination but Ramsay scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Ramsay shoots in and drives through. Johnson sprawls well. Ramsay avoids the head kick by Johnson.
We've been hearing reports that Johnson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Ramsay scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Ramsay trying to control the position but Johnson is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ramsay is working Johnson over with some ground and pound from side control. Johnson is trying to control Ramsay's posture but Ramsay avoids it. Ramsay lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson struggling a bit here. Johnson on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Ramsay lands a decent elbow from side control. Johnson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Ramsay tries to score with some ground and pound. Johnson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Johnson is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ramsay cracks Johnson with a big right hand but Johnson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom here. Ramsay lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.
Ramsay throws a strike aimed at the side of Johnson's head but Johnson avoids it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ramsay has an Americana. Johnson didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Ramsay is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Ramsay hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
