PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Blayze Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Rees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rees has chosen White Room as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blayze Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Rees!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rees wants to clinch up but Alexander keeps it at a distance.
Alexander tries for a takedown but Rees sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Rees is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Alexander shoots in and bounces Rees off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rees keeping moving, preventing Alexander from controlling successfully.
Rees can't keep his opponent in guard - Alexander advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Alexander is looking to take a break and control but Rees is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rees has Alexander up against the cage in a clinch.
Alexander is working for takedown but Rees is calmly controlling the position for now.

Alexander turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Alexander manages to end up in side control.

Rees is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Alexander is defending well though. Rees let's go of the attempt for now.

Rees has the hooks in. Alexander is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Alexander tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Alexander is breathing heavily.
Rees wants to control the pace but Alexander is squirming around nicely.
Rees takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Alexander is trying desperately to improve position.
Alexander really wants to buck Rees off and get back to his feet.

Rees is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Rees looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Rees tries to control but Alexander wriggling away.

Rees stands up from mount. Strange move.
Alexander misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Alexander tries to keep at a distance but Rees has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rees gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Rees decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Alexander gets underhooks to prevent Rees's takedown attempt.
Come on Rees - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Rees wants a takedown.

Alexander breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alexander shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rees's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rees trying to keep a closed guard but Alexander is proving a slippery customer.

A close round but Tommy Rees will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Alexander circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alexander throws a leg kick but Rees sees it coming and moves out of range.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rees paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rees stuffs the takedown.
Rees takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Blayze Alexander is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A combination from Rees does no damage.
Alexander keeps the fight on the outside.

Alexander shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rees wants to stand up but Alexander is controlling him.

Alexander avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rees wants to sweep here but Alexander controlling him for the moment.

Alexander passes Rees's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alexander wants to stand but Rees has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Alexander wants to take a breather but Rees is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rees is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rees is trying to control but can't.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Alexander looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rees drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rees stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alexander swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rees wanted to stand there but Alexander had control of the position.
Rees passes Alexander's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rees is thwarting Alexander's attempts to control the position.

Alexander tries to roll over but Rees keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rees wants to pass to mount but Alexander is defending the position.
Rees wants to take a breather but Alexander is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Alexander darts in and clinches Rees up against the cage.
Alexander avoids the elbow strike from Rees, against the cage.

Rees is fighting off a takedown attempt but Alexander is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rees to the mat. Rees regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Rees has Alexander pulled in close to control his posture.

Alexander drops back looking for a leg! Rees is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rees manages to kick Alexander off! Alexander jumps back into Rees's guard.

Rees has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Alexander is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rees.

Alexander stands up and we're back to a striking position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Rees trying to stall but Alexander improves his position.
Alexander is pressed up against the cage. Rees has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alexander down to the mat. Alexander avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Alexander decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Alexander shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rees as he avoids it easily.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch but Rees swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rees darts in and clinches Alexander up against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Rees.
Alexander jumps guard but Rees stands there with Alexander around his waist. Alexander gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Alexander tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rees smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Blayze Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rees gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The is referee keeping an eye on Rees - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Rees is pressed up against the cage. Alexander has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rees down to the mat. Rees avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rees has Alexander pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Alexander manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rees is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Rees wants the takedown. Alexander is fighting it off but Rees persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Alexander's guard against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alexander misses with a combination
and Rees counters with an inside leg kick.

Rees pushes Alexander up against the cage in a clinch.
Alexander tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rees smiles and moves away.

Alexander gets caught flat footed, as Rees shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Alexander looking for a sweep. Not yet Alexander, not yet.

Rees gets to his feet - Alexander follows without any prompting.

Rees looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rees wants to pass the guard but Alexander is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tommy Rees comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rees has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
