Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Deshawn Shaw! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roman Francis! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good standup being displayed there by Francis as he connects with a hook. Francis lands with a cross. Roman Francis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shaw ducks under a wild hook from Francis. Shaw ducks under a wild hook from Francis. Francis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shaw.
Francis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Francis misses with a looping right. Shaw appears to be looking for a big counter. Francis connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Shaw shoots and misses and Francis counters with a stiff right hand. Francis connects with a right hand. Shaw shakes it off. Shaw shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Francis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Shaw attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Francis cracks Shaw with a right hand to the side of the head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A decent looking cross lands there for Francis. Francis works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Francis connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shaw. Shaw circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Roman Francis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Francis scores with a jab to the body. Francis is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Shaw had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Shaw moves to clinch but Francis breaks away enabling Francis to counter with a crisp jab. Francis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Francis listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Francis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Francis works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Shaw is rocked! Francis throws an overhand right that drops Shaw like a sack of potatoes! Francis dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roman Francis! Roman Francis was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
