Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
27 - 25 - 1, fighting out of New York, AL Lickertwat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melvin Morris! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good shot there by Lickertwat. Decent striking displayed by Lickertwat there. Morris goes for a double leg but Lickertwat avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lickertwat continues to drive forward. Lickertwat listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Morris tries to clinch but Lickertwat is having none of it. Morris walks into a stiff left hand from Lickertwat. Morris swinging wildly here.
Morris throws a hook to the side of Lickertwat's head but Lickertwat sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Lickertwat lands a glancing blow to the side of Morris's head. Morris wants to clinch up but Lickertwat keeps it at a distance. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Morris has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Morris moves into the clinch. Morris jumps guard but Lickertwat turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Lickertwat has clasped his hands together around Morris's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Lickertwat is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Morris has escaped the position, nice work there. Lickertwat is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Lickertwat is trying to get an arm triangle but Morris is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morris is looking to regain half guard here but Lickertwat keeps moving and retains side control. Lickertwat looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Lickertwat working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Morris can't do much from the bottom here. Lickertwat tries for a kimura but Morris is defending well. Lickertwat tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lickertwat has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Morris knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Morris tries to bench press Lickertwat off him but Lickertwat keeps the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lickertwat passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Morris! Lickertwat wants to finish this one by submission but Morris is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lickertwat. Morris tries to hold on but Lickertwat postures up. Lickertwat swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Morris is now in Lickertwat's guard. A big mistake from Lickertwat there, giving up the dominant position!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat has Morris pulled in close to control his posture. Lickertwat is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Lickertwat trying to control the action but Morris is working from the bottom. Morris really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lickertwat. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Lickertwat is looking for a kimura here.
Morris is trying to get back to full guard. Morris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lickertwat is working away from the top position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morris is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lickertwat pulls his head out easily. Lickertwat is pressing down on Morris's thigh, looking to free his foot. Morris is holding on for now. Lickertwat works his foot free and advances to mount. Morris wants to control but Lickertwat is having none of it. Morris might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lickertwat haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Lickertwat wants to control the pace but Morris is squirming around nicely. Lickertwat controlling the position easily from mount. Morris can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
AL Lickertwat dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Lickertwat lands a nice leg kick that just misses Morris's sensitive parts. Morris tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Morris takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Morris rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lickertwat moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Nice jab there from Lickertwat. Lickertwat scores with a jab to the body. Morris looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Morris lands a left and a right that sends Lickertwat crashing to the canvas! Morris dives into mount looking to finish!
Lickertwat is rocked!
It looks like AL Lickertwat has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Lickertwat keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Oh Lickertwat is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Morris raining down shots from the mount! Lickertwat is trying desperately to improve position. Lickertwat regains half guard. Morris seems to be working for a kimura but Lickertwat defends the submission attempt. Morris looks to land a strike but Lickertwat avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Morris stopping the sweep attempt from Lickertwat. Lickertwat seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lickertwat has his foot on Morris's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Morris works his way back into a safe position though. Lickertwat is trying to control the position but Morris postures up. Morris drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lickertwat looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lickertwat looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lickertwat! Lickertwat trying to control the position but Morris is working away. Lickertwat is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Morris is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Lickertwat working away. Lickertwat is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Morris knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. You can see the frustration on Morris's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat advances to full mount. Morris wants to hold on but Lickertwat pushes him away. Morris is wriggling around trying to escape.
Lickertwat looking for a guillotine from mount but Morris is having none of it. Lickertwat content just to control the position here. Morris is squirming around, avoiding Lickertwat's attempts to control the action. Lickertwat has control of Morris's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Morris regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Lickertwat looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morris is working to get back to half guard.
Morris is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Morris tries to control the position but Lickertwat now has his back.

Lickertwat is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Morris with him. Morris is trying to defend but Lickertwat has an arm under the chin now! Morris grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). AL Lickertwat! Jumping up and down and very excited, AL Lickertwat waved his t-shirt featuring Milwaukee's Best Nutrition's logo in front of the cameras.
