17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Roger Machado! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kruger takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
It looks like Roger Machado has been cut. Kruger lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
We've been told by Kruger's head coaches at The Zoo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Machado drives through with a takedown into Kruger's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Kruger looking for a sweep. Not yet Kruger, not yet. Machado forces his way into half guard. Kruger is looking to control Machado's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kruger avoid being mounted? Kruger wants to improve his position but Machado is controlling well.
Machado wants to free his trapped foot but Kruger is holding on for dear life with his legs. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kruger is trying to control but can't.
Machado content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Kruger trying to control but Machado postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Machado is trying to work for a kimura but Kruger is defending well.
Machado wants to free his trapped foot but Kruger is holding on for dear life with his legs. Kruger regains full guard. Nicely done. Kruger managing to control the position. Machado wants to control from the top but Kruger keeps moving. Kruger seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Machado trying to control but Kruger is working from the bottom. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Kruger looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Machado. Machado dives in and grabs Kruger's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kruger pushes down on Machado's head and hops out. Kruger throws a push kick but Machado slaps the foot to one side. Machado is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Machado shoots in for a takedown but Kruger shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Dustin Kruger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roger Machado. Machado looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Kruger tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Roger Machado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machado fails with a takedown attempt. Kruger lands a glancing blow to the side of Machado's head. Kruger displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Machado. Kruger ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Machado gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kruger. Dustin Kruger is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kruger throws a quick inside leg kick. Machado shoots for a double leg takedown but Kruger sprawls well. He's pushed Machado's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Kruger appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Kruger scores with a jab to the body. Machado looks winded!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kruger cracks Machado with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Machado needs to keep his hands up - Kruger had a free shot at his head there. Kruger fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Machado is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kruger sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Machado closes the distance and clinches up with Kruger, looking for a takedown. Machado pushes Kruger against the cage but Kruger circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Nice jab there from Kruger.
That has opened up Roger Machado's cut even more. Kruger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Machado goes for a double leg but Kruger avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kruger continues to drive forward. Kruger thinks about countering with a head kick. Machado takes one on the button. A chopping leg kick lands by Kruger. Kruger bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Machado's head. Kruger scores with a decent looking hook.
The cut above Roger Machado's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Kruger is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Machado flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Machado is out cold! Kruger holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dustin Kruger! Dustin Kruger retains his heavyweight title! During a confident post fight interview, Dustin Kruger thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
