Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Best!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Connor McQuack!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Columbo Gatti and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McQuack throws a right and a left that both miss.

McQuack shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McQuack showed some decent athleticism there.
McQuack wants to lay and pray for a moment but Best keeps working.
McQuack is taking a breather. Best says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
McQuack misses with a head shot. Best uses the momentum to regain guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Best keeping full guard, as McQuack tries to pass.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

McQuack gets to his feet - Best follows without any prompting.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

McQuack clinches up against the cage.
Best throws an elbow but it's blocked.

McQuack breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

McQuack throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Best tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McQuack is in Best's guard.
McQuack must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
McQuack wants to pass the guard but Best is keeping the position.
McQuack passes Best's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
McQuack trying to control from Best's half guard. Best has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Best is on top in guard.

McQuack manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Best manages to get himself to full guard.

Best lands an upkick as McQuack stands over him.
Best will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Best thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
McQuack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Best swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McQuack is looking to work some ground and pound but Best has wrist control.
Best keeping moving, preventing McQuack from controlling successfully.
McQuack is fighting to break Best's control of his arms but Best is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

McQuack drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Best manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McQuack manages to get himself to full guard.

Best thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McQuack has control of Best's left arm, preventing Best from doing any damage.

Best stands up over McQuack, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Best chips away with some ground and pound.
McQuack wants to control the position but Best says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
McQuack trying to control from the bottom.

Best looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Best is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McQuack sees it coming and defends easily.
McQuack has hold of Best's hands but Best slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Best seems to be working for a kimura but McQuack defends the submission attempt.
McQuack wants to get back to full guard.

McQuack is trying to maintain the position but Best is very close to passing his half guard.
