Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brooks Sumner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brooks Sumner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mauricio Rua! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sumner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rua. A quick step to the side and Sumner tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Rua drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Sumner throws a right and a left that both miss. Rua swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sumner lands a body shot.
Sumner blocks a low kick nicely. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rua. Sumner is looking to counter punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sumner tries to sprawl but Rua drives through with a takedown into half guard. Sumner wants to control but Rua is keeping busy and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sumner gets full guard. Rua slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Rua must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sumner throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Sumner is retaining full guard. Rua looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Sumner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sumner trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Rua has managed to clinch.
Rua manages to pull guard.
Rua has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Sumner preventing the sweep. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rua holds on and takes a little breather. Sumner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rua wants to sweep but no luck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sumner trying to move into half guard but instead Rua has managed to sweep! Rua sitting in guard here, content to control. Rua is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Rua slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Sumner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Rua is stalling in the full guard. Rua is looking to stand up but Sumner won't let him. Sumner throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Sumner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sumner digs a good hook to Rua's body.
Sumner works the jab nicely. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sumner tries to clinch but Rua is having none of it. Rua is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Sumner with a body shot. Sumner comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Mauricio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sumner lands with a good body shot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mauricio Rua will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Rua shoots in but no luck this time. Sumner lands with a nice combination. Rua backs away looking to recover.
It looks like Mauricio Rua has been cut. Sumner stuffs the takedown. Sumner jabs Rua to the body, keeping him at a distance. Sumner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rua can do to turn this around? Sumner drops Rua with a big left hand! Rua is injured, injured bad! Sumner jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brooks Sumner!
