Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fausto Ayers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benson Henderson! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Darius Henderson and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ayers drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Ayers gets to his feet - Henderson follows without any prompting. Henderson stuffs the takedown attempt from Ayers. Ayers gets slowly back to his feet. Ayers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Henderson avoids it really well and circles away. Ayers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Henderson swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fausto Ayers. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ayers tries to close the distance and clinch but Henderson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Ayers wants to clinch up but Henderson keeps it at a distance. Ayers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Sloppy strikes from Henderson. Those never looked like landing. Ayers tries to counter by clinching up but Henderson breaks away and moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ayers fails to land the takedown. Henderson with a hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henderson throws a right hand that Ayers ducks under and follows up with a left that Ayers also avoids with ease. Henderson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Henderson wants it to stay on the feet. Henderson looks for a takedown but Ayers sprawls well. Henderson looks winded! Ayers tries to close the distance and clinch up but Henderson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Henderson gets tackled into the cage by Ayers. Ayers maintains the clinch. Henderson working hard to break the clinch. Ayers misses with a body punch.

Henderson is trying to force a seperation but Ayers has the dominant position. Ayers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ayers fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Henderson is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Benson Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ayers shoots in for a double leg but Henderson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Nice shot by Henderson. Henderson tries a low kick but Ayers avoids it. Henderson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Henderson throws a right hand that Ayers ducks under and follows up with a left that Ayers also avoids with ease. Henderson misses with a series of wild punches.
Ayers tries to counter with a takedown but Henderson is quick to defend against it. Ayers throws a right hand that Henderson ducks under and follows up with a left that Henderson also avoids with ease. Henderson throws a combination that misses and Ayers counters into the clinch. Nicely done. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ayers jumps guard and drags Henderson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Henderson passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. Henderson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Henderson throws a strike but Ayers avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Henderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. It looks like Henderson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Henderson stops Ayers from standing up. Ayers looking to control.
Henderson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Henderson postures up in Ayers's guard and throws a big left but Ayers blocks it. Ayers throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Henderson won't allow Ayers to get back to his feet.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Henderson throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. A combination from Henderson does no damage. Ayers avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Benson Henderson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Benson Henderson seems to be getting the better of the standup. Ayers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Henderson as he avoids it easily. Despite the aggression on Henderson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Henderson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ayers counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Ayers manages to break the clinch.
Ayers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Henderson circles away. Henderson tries to clinch but Ayers moves out of range. No luck for Henderson with that takedown attempt. Henderson circles away from the clinch attempt.

Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Henderson walks away with a smile on his face. Ayers gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ayers fails with a takedown attempt. Ayers fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Ayers is rocked! Henderson gets in close and tags Ayers with a short punch that almost sends Ayers to the mat! Oh Ayers is in big trouble! He turns his back on Henderson, trying to create some distance but Henderson rushes him, striking wildly and Ayers goes down! The referee tackles Henderson into the cage to end the fight! Henderson is one violent man!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Benson Henderson!
