Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Tarasov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Shoei Braz! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tarasov throws a right hand that misses
and Braz counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Braz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tarasov sees it coming and defends easily. Braz is looking for a kimura but Tarasov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Braz to get the leverage. Braz not landing any meaningful shots this time. Braz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Braz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tarasov is defending against the submission attempts here by Braz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tarasov actively working from the bottom here. Braz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tarasov is just riding it out for now. Braz eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tarasov trying to control but Braz postures up.
Braz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tarasov sees it coming and defends easily. Tarasov is looking for a sweep. Braz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Braz is working for a kimura but Tarasov is defending it quite comfortably.
Tarasov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Braz. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Braz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Braz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tarasov defends it well. Tarasov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Tarasov has hold of Braz's hands but Braz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Braz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Braz scoring with strikes to the body and head. Braz is working for a submission of some sort.
Braz seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Braz seems to be working for a kimura but Tarasov defends the submission attempt. Tarasov wants to control but Braz is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Braz seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Tarasov has recovered full guard. Tarasov keeping full guard, as Braz tries to pass. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Braz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Braz is pushing down on Tarasov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tarasov is fighting to maintain full guard but Braz has managed to sneak the leg through. Braz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Braz seems to be looking for submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Tarasov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Braz pulls his head out easily. Braz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tarasov sees it coming and defends easily. Braz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Braz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Braz is working for a kimura here but Tarasov manages to reverse the position and he's now in Braz's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Braz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tarasov defends well. Tarasov looking to sit in guard and control but Braz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shoei Braz dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Tarasov tests Braz's chin there with a solid looking shot.
It looks like Shoei Braz has been cut. Tarasov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Tarasov maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Braz could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Tarasov has cracked it and Braz is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Tarasov!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ivan Tarasov! A pretty intense looking Ivan Tarasov took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title. Shoei Braz was interviewed post fight and said 'I`ll be back'.
