Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tyson Kawajiri! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kid Kamamoto! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kamamoto looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Kamamoto displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kawajiri throws out the jab. Nice sprawl there from Kawajiri as Kamamoto shoots in. Kamamoto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Kamamoto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kawajiri is keeping the position for now. Kamamoto postures up.
Kamamoto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Kamamoto won't allow Kawajiri to sweep him here. Kamamoto postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kamamoto gets a takedown into half guard. Kawajiri punching from the bottom.
Kamamoto lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Kawajiri knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kamamoto on the ground. Kawajiri moves into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kamamoto scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Kamamoto preventing the sweep. Kawajiri on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kawajiri tries to get out of the position. Kamamoto throwing strikes from guard but Kawajiri blocks nicely. Kawajiri wants to sweep here but Kamamoto controlling him for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kawajiri is on top in guard.
Kawajiri gets to his feet - Kamamoto follows without any prompting. Kawajiri with a jab. Kawajiri is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kamamoto. Kawajiri connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Kawajiri tests Kamamoto's chin there with a solid looking shot. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kamamoto takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Kamamoto looks gassed! Kawajiri steps into range and cracks Kamamoto with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Kamamoto flops backwards and Kawajiri dives into his guard looking to finish!
Kamamoto is rocked! Kamamoto throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Kamamoto is still in real trouble! Can Kawajiri finish him?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kamamoto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kawajiri doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kawajiri manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Kamamoto seems to have recovered his senses. Kawajiri trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kawajiri landing with the ground and pound. Kawajiri stands and throws Kamamoto's legs to the side, diving into side control. Kamamoto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Kawajiri wants to control but Kamamoto is keeping him busy. Kawajiri lands a few punches from side control. Kawajiri working the ground and pound from side control. Kawajiri scoring with punches from side control. Kawajiri looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Kawajiri postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kamamoto managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kawajiri.
Kawajiri lands some shots froms side control. Kawajiri trying to control the action but Kamamoto is working from the bottom. Kawajiri working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Kawajiri tries to move to mount but Kamamoto blocks the move with his legs.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kamamoto walks into a stiff left hand from Kawajiri. Kawajiri fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kamamoto on the side of the head. Kamamoto shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kawajiri but Kawajiri pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kamamoto misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Tyson Kawajiri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kid Kamamoto. Kawajiri misses with a wild combination.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Kawajiri! Kamamoto is backing up but he can't get away as Kawajiri lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Kamamoto and ends the fight. Great knockout.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Tyson Kawajiri!
