PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Din Yaj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takashi Kadota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Din Yaj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Takashi Kadota!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yaj fails with an attempt to clinch.
Yaj swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Kadota counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Yaj is positioning himself well to prevent Kadota advancing to mount.
Yaj is pressing down on Kadota's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kadota wants to control from the top but Yaj keeps moving.
Kadota throws a big elbow that misses.
Kadota with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kadota is fighting to break Yaj's control of his arms but Yaj is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yaj is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yaj pulls Kadota in close to prevent any damage.

Kadota throwing strikes from guard but Yaj blocks nicely.
Yaj is trying to control the position but Kadota postures up.
Kadota lands a couple of digs.
Kadota is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Yaj pulls Kadota in close to prevent any damage.
Kadota chips away with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Yaj looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kadota puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kadota not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kadota trying to control the action but Yaj is working from the bottom.
Kadota thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Yaj moves into full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kadota in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Yaj is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kadota is in close to Yaj's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Yaj is trying to keep Kadota in close.

Yaj bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kadota's guard.

Yaj working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kadota is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Takashi Kadota dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kadota fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Yaj.
Kadota with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Kadota tries to keep at a distance but Yaj has taken the fight into the clinch.
Yaj using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Yaj tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Kadota is trying to stall.
Yaj lands with a right to the head.
Yaj scores with a shot to the side of Kadota's head.
Yaj goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kadota prevents it.

Yaj landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Kadota lands a left hand that snaps the head of Yaj backwards.
Kadota tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kadota lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Kadota is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Yaj is keeping busy.

Kadota breaks the clinch.
Kadota takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Nice defenses there by Yaj.
Kadota ducks right into an uppercut from Yaj.
Yaj misses with a double jab.
Kadota missing with a left hand there. Yaj was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Yaj lands a lovely overhand right.

Yaj gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kadota to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kadota throws a strike but Yaj rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yaj works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Yaj is trying to work for a kimura but Kadota is defending well.
Yaj looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Yaj thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kadota's head.
Kadota is looking for a sweep. Yaj is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Yaj is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Kadota still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Kadota has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Yaj is looking to regain half guard here but Kadota keeps moving and retains side control.

Yaj tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kadota wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kadota tries to score with some ground and pound. Yaj controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Yaj isn't going anywhere.
Yaj manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Yaj is pressing down on Kadota's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Yaj keeping moving, preventing Kadota from controlling successfully.
Yaj looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kadota is one step ahead there.
Kadota stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yaj swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yaj is on top in guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Yaj connects with a body shot.
Yaj lands a slapping body shot.
Yaj shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kadota but Kadota pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Yaj scores with a nice head shot.
Yaj connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Yaj slips a jab from Kadota.
Din Yaj is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yaj throws a hook but Kadota blocks it.

Yaj fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yaj. Kadota does a little dance to reset his feet.

Kadota looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kadota punishes Yaj's body with a nice straight punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kadota closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Yaj quickly recovers to half guard.

Yaj is looking to get back to full guard here but Kadota has managed to pass to side control instead.
Kadota tries to score with some ground and pound. Yaj controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Yaj is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kadota got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yaj has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kadota has managed to get both his arms back between Yaj's legs - danger averted.
Kadota looking to sit in guard and control but Yaj gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Kadota has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yaj can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Yaj wants to hit a switch here but Kadota passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Yaj there!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Din Yaj.
I think Yaj has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
