Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Micheal Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ranger Culguy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ranger Culguy has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Micheal Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ranger Culguy!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Culguy to the ground. Thomas is now in Culguy's guard.
Culguy looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Thomas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Thomas lands a couple of digs.
Thomas is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Culguy keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully.
Thomas throws a big right hand that misses.
Thomas trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Thomas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thomas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas is in close to Culguy's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Thomas working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Thomas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Culguy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Thomas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Thomas trying to control but Culguy is working from the bottom.
Thomas pushing down on Culguy's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Thomas wants to work for an arm triangle but Culguy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Culguy won't allow Thomas to pass to mount.
Thomas thows a huge punch but Culguy dodges it nicely.
Thomas drops an elbow to the side of Culguy's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas throwing shots but Culguy is blocking nicely.

Thomas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Culguy is just riding it out for now. Thomas eventually gives up the hold.
Thomas working over Culguy with some ground and pound. Culguy looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Culguy taking some punishment here, with Thomas in his half guard.

Thomas decides to stand and escape the position.
Thomas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Culguy tries to avoid it but Thomas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Culguy to the ground. Culguy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Thomas misses with a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thomas throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Culguy.
Thomas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Culguy stuffs the takedown attempt from Thomas. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet.
Culguy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
That kick from Thomas tenderised Culguy's leg. Culguy is trying to keep his angry face on.
Thomas throws a leg kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Culguy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Culguy gets caught flat footed, as Thomas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Thomas works over Culguy with some ground and pound from guard.
Thomas trying to control the position from guard on top but Culguy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Thomas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Thomas working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Micheal Thomas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Thomas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Culguy misses with a straight right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Culguy. Thomas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Thomas appears to be looking for a big counter.
Culguy throws a body punch but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ranger Culguy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Thomas as Culguy shoots in.
Thomas tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Culguy slaps away a takedown attempt from Thomas, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Culguy is breathing heavily.
Thomas lands a really nice looking cross but Culguy seems unphased.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Thomas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Culguy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Thomas scores with a couple of nice shots.
Culguy has hold of Thomas's hands but Thomas slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Thomas seems to be looking for submissions.
Culguy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Culguy is defending against the submission attempts here by Thomas.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Culguy is not content to let Thomas control the position.
Micheal Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Thomas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Culguy is just riding it out for now. Thomas eventually gives up the hold.

Thomas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thomas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Culguy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Thomas is looking for a kimura here.
Culguy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Thomas has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Culguy defend it? Thomas steps over the head and cranks it - Culguy is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Thomas!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Micheal Thomas!
