Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Ellis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luis Montano! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ellis tries to land a front kick but Montano steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Ellis takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Ellis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Montano avoids it really well and circles away. Ellis shoots in but Montano avoids the takedown attempt easily. Montano tries to clinch but Ellis moves out of range. Ellis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Montano sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ellis somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Ellis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ellis goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Both fighters circling a little - Montano finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Montano leaves Ellis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ellis shoots in but no luck this time. As Ellis backs off Montano throws a huge counter combo but Ellis manages to avoid it all. Montano closes the distance and clinches. Ellis goes for a takedown attempt but Montano pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Ellis is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Montano tries to clinch up. Montano throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Ellis's head. Montano staying out of range there. Montano throws a counter combo. Ellis thuds his right hand into Montano's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Montano wants to clinch up but Ellis keeps it at a distance. Montano throws a series of punches but Ellis avoids them all with ease. Ellis bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Montano's head. Nice sprawl there from Montano as Ellis shoots in. Ellis walks forward, straight into a front kick from Montano. Montano swings for the body but Ellis moves out of range.

Ellis keeps the fight on the outside. Montano gets a clinch. I was talking to Ellis's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Montano missing with knees to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ellis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Montano pulls him back up using the underhooks. Ellis managing to block the knees to the body from Montano.
Montano misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ellis.
Ellis is looking to take this one to the mat. Ellis changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Montano fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ellis misses with a kick to the body.
Ellis misses with a hook. Ellis throws the kick towards the body but Montano avoids it. Montano gets caught flat footed, as Ellis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Montano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ellis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ellis drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Ellis seems to have locked his on tight now - Montano screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Ellis, as he picks up the win!
