Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jeffrey Combs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Juan Dela Cruz! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dela Cruz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Dela Cruz wants to control from the top but Combs keeps moving. Dela Cruz passes Combs's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Dela Cruz is working for a kimura but Combs is defending it quite comfortably.
Combs on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Combs is positioning himself well to prevent Dela Cruz advancing to mount. Combs is looking for a sweep. Dela Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Combs is refusing to be controlled, as Dela Cruz sits in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dela Cruz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Combs makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Combs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dela Cruz won't allow Combs to sweep him here. Dela Cruz postures up and lands a big shot to Combs's brow. Dela Cruz postures up in Combs's guard and throws a big left but Combs blocks it. Dela Cruz is in close to Combs's body, working some short punches and elbows. Combs keeping moving, preventing Dela Cruz from controlling successfully. Combs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Combs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Combs had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dela Cruz defends it easily. Combs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Dela Cruz wanted to stand there but Combs had control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Combs throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Dela Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Combs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Dela Cruz passes into half guard. Dela Cruz is trying to work for a kimura but Combs is defending well.
Combs is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Dela Cruz not doing much here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Dela Cruz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Combs has managed to free his arm - good work. Dela Cruz is thwarting Combs's attempts to control the position. Dela Cruz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Combs doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dela Cruz. Dela Cruz is trying to control the action in half guard but Combs is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Combs tries to roll over but Dela Cruz keeps him under control. Combs moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Combs is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Combs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Combs with the ground and pound but Dela Cruz uses the opportunity to regain guard. Dela Cruz working for submissions but it's allowed Combs to get to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dela Cruz tries to kick Combs off in order to stand up. Combs Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Juan Dela Cruz dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Combs shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dela Cruz sprawls well. Dela Cruz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Combs gets slowly back to his feet. Dela Cruz feints and as Combs raises his hands in defense, Dela Cruz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dela Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Combs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Dela Cruz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Combs haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dela Cruz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Combs keeping moving, preventing Dela Cruz from controlling successfully.

Juan Dela Cruz has got the better of the ground game so far. Combs is trying to control the position but Dela Cruz postures up. Dela Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Combs is retaining full guard. Dela Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Combs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Dela Cruz slips nicely into half guard. Combs is looking to control Dela Cruz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Combs avoid being mounted? Dela Cruz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Combs defends it well. Dela Cruz is thwarting Combs's attempts to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Combs wants to improve his position but Dela Cruz is controlling well.
Dela Cruz seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Combs is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
