PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Augustine Valencia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Augustine Valencia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Miller!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valencia has closed the distance and engaged Miller in a clinch.

Miller pulls Valencia into guard.

Miller working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valencia doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valencia manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Miller controls Valencia momentarily but Valencia frees himself.
Valencia lands a couple of elbows.
Valencia wanted to stand there but Miller had control of the position.
Miller is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Valencia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Miller controls Valencia momentarily but Valencia frees himself.

Miller has a closed guard, preventing Valencia from standing up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Miller looking to hit a scissor sweep but Valencia is one step ahead there.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Miller fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ben Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Valencia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Valencia on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Miller. Miller obviously looking to wear him down.
Miller shoots and misses

and Valencia counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Valencia.
Valencia wants a takedown but no success here.

Valencia has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Miller clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Valencia looking to break Miller's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Miller remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Valencia will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Valencia has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Miller's body.

Valencia is looking for the choke from the back position but Miller is controlling his hands well.

Miller is trying to stand back up.
Valencia really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
You can see the frustration on Miller's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Valencia working for a choke but Miller reverses nicely into Valencia 's guard.

Valencia will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Miller is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Valencia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miller defends well.

Valencia wants to sweep but no luck.
Miller advances position into side control!

Valencia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A close round but Ben Miller will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Miller forces Valencia back against the cage and clinches.
Miller wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Miller pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ben Miller is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Valencia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Miller swivels and escapes.
Miller tries to clinch there but Valencia circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miller shoots in looking for a takedown but Valencia manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Miller's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A solid leg kick lands there for Miller.
Miller gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Valencia counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Miller misses with a head kick.
Valencia tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Miller manages to circle out of the way.
Miller throws a head kick but Valencia moves out of range.
Valencia seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Valencia leaves Miller with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
As Miller tries to get set, Valencia tries to push him back and clinch up but Miller manages to avoid the attempt.
Augustine Valencia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Miller.
Miller is breathing heavily.
Miller misses with a takedown attempt - Valencia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Valencia holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Valencia has picked Miller up - he's going for a ride! Valencia dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Valencia lands a nice short elbow.

Miller makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Miller.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Valencia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Miller is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Valencia, into his guard.

Valencia throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Miller stands up and waves to Valencia to follow him.
Miller misses with a head kick.
As Miller tries to get set, Valencia tries to push him back and clinch up but Miller manages to avoid the attempt.
Valencia swats away the attempt to clinch by Miller.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Augustine Valencia will probably get the nod.
That's time! Valencia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Miller feints and as Valencia raises his hands in defense, Miller changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Valencia is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Miller must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Miller is keen to just control but Valencia is a slippery customer.

Valencia manages to get back to half guard.
Miller looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Valencia with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Valencia won't allow Miller to pass to mount.
Miller takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Valencia tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Valencia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Valencia.
Valencia thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Miller wants to stand but Valencia is controlling his posture from full guard.
Valencia keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Valencia throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valencia can't keep his opponent in guard - Miller advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Miller stalling.

Valencia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Miller pulls his head out easily.

Miller is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Valencia is just riding it out for now. Miller eventually gives up the hold.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Miller has a takedown stuffed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Valencia looking to score a takedown here. Miller is defending well but Valencia drives through and ends up in Miller's guard.
Valencia postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Valencia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Miller is trying to hold Valencia in close to prevent damage but Valencia has managed to pass into half guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Augustine Valencia.
I think Valencia has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
