Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Korki Bonyal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocky Balboa! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balboa fails with the takedown. Balboa uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bonyal. Balboa shoots in but Bonyal avoids the takedown attempt easily. Balboa gets tackled into the cage by Bonyal. Bonyal maintains the clinch. Bonyal wants to break the clinch but can't.
Come on Bonyal - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Bonyal lands on the inside with an uppercut. Balboa wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bonyal has him pressed against the cage. Bonyal prevents Balboa from breaking the clinch. Balboa wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A short left from Bonyal. Bonyal is struggling to control the position. A frustrated look appears on Bonyal's face as he tries to break the clinch. Balboa can't break the clinch.
Bonyal cracks Balboa with a nice body shot. Balboa looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bonyal tries to circle away but Balboa has him pinned against the cage. Bonyal is pushing Balboa up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Balboa is trying to break the clinch but Bonyal is controlling him. Balboa has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Bonyal seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Balboa can turn it around. Bonyal keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Balboa's efforts to push away. Nice body punch from Bonyal. Bonyal wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Balboa has him pressed against the cage. Balboa breaks from the clinch.
Balboa gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bonyal counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Balboa is rocked! Korki Bonyal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rocky Balboa. Balboa looks winded! Bonyal cracks Balboa with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Balboa looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Bonyal finish him?
Balboa is still on wobbly legs! Can Bonyal finish him? Bonyal is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Bonyal shuts the power down on Balboa. Lights out, game over! Bonyal is your winner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Korki Bonyal! Korki Bonyal decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
