Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arlen Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mickey Dickens! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Wood thows a huge punch but Dickens dodges it nicely.
Wood prevents Dickens from improving his position. Wood scoring with strikes to the body and head. Wood prevents Dickens from standing back up.
Wood is thwarting Dickens's attempts to control the position. Wood not landing any meaningful shots this time. Wood thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wood is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Wood is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
It looks like Mickey Dickens has been cut. Wood slows the pace down in half guard. Dickens has hold of Wood's hands but Wood slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Dickens wants to control but Wood is keeping busy and won't allow it. Wood really is a fat lump. Wood perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Wood lands strikes from half guard. Dickens wants to control but Wood is keeping busy.
Dickens wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wood missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Wood controlling the action here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Dickens manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wood on his heels. He'll look to pass Wood's guard now, I'm sure. Wood looking for a sweep. Not yet Wood, not yet. Dickens is stalling in the full guard. Wood has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Wood wants to sweep but no luck. Dickens drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dickens jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dickens defends well. Dickens makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Dickens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Wood is looking to cinch up a triangle. Dickens throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Wood's body to avoid the submission. Wood has instead reached around Dickens's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Wood arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
