Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kendall Sweet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rutger Nijs! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sweet goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Nijs tries to clinch but Sweet is having none of it. Sweet has Nijs up against the cage in a clinch.
Sweet pressing his opponent against the cage. Sweet breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nijs tries to clinch but Sweet moves out of range. Nijs fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sweet is looking to chop away at Nijs's legs. Nijs is looking to take this fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nijs throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Sweet tried to counter with a leg kick but Nijs avoided it. Nijs takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Rutger Nijs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sweet instigates a clinch. Sweet manages to break the clinch.
Sweet clinches with his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sweet breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice body kick from Sweet. Sweet takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Sweet swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nijs looks for the body kick but Sweet saw that one coming. Sweet throws a low kick but Nijs avoids it. Sweet darts in and clinches Nijs up against the cage. Sweet content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Sweet lands with a short head shot on the inside. Sweet turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Sweet decides to stand back up. Sweet steps back and let's Nijs get back to his feet. Nijs looks winded! Sweet tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. The fight moves into the clinch position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nijs being controlled against the cage. Sweet prevents Nijs from breaking the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sweet displaying some good clinch control by pressing Nijs up against the cage. Sweet has picked Nijs up - he's going for a ride! Sweet dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Nijs scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sweet manages to mount him!
Sweet has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Nijs's face.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sweet cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sweet with a couple of short strikes. Sweet landing punches. Sweet looking to finish Nijs with some ground and pound. This is bad for Nijs! Sweet has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Nijs is forced to tap!
