Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, All American! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexey Potapenko! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! American fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Potapenko, pushing him back against the cage. American is looking to control Potapenko's arms but Potapenko gets an underhook and turns him. Now American has his back to the cage. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Potapenko misses with a hook to the ribs.
American wants a takedown but no success here.
Potapenko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Potapenko catches American with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! American closes the distance and clinches. American taking a breather. American jumps guard but Potapenko stands there with American around his waist. American gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
American tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Potapenko just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for All American. That's going to take a lot out of him. A nice left hand lands by Potapenko.
Potapenko lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Potapenko lands with a left to the head. American is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Potapenko to keep the fight standing. American working aggressively here.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for American. Potapenko throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Americans head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Potapenko with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Potapenko's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's one minute gone in the round. American loads up on a big right hand but Potapenko slips the punch. Potapenko misses with a straight left. American shoots for a takedown but Potapenko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Alexey Potapenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Potapenko has managed to clinch.
Potapenko breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. American shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. The fighters circling - Potapenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land. American shoots in but Potapenko avoids the takedown attempt easily. American closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Potapenko feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending American crashing to the mat! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Alexey Potapenko!
