Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nerd Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Basty Jones!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.
Jones looking to pass the guard.
Diaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Diaz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones is keeping the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz preventing the sweep.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.
Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
Jones won't allow Diaz to get back to his feet.
Jones advances to half guard.
Diaz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jones working over Diaz with some ground and pound. Diaz looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jones prevents Diaz from standing back up.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Diaz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jones lands strikes from half guard.
Jones is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Diaz is hurt! He's hurt bad - Jones fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Diaz from any more punishment! Congratulations to Jones! Great finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Basty Jones!
Basty Jones decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
