Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alvaro Casey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Just A Guy! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A Guy looks to throw the jab but Casey is out of range. A Guy connects with a solid leg kick. A Guy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Casey was well out of range. Poor timing from A Guy. A little feinted left hand from Casey on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. A Guy wants to clinch. Casey takes a shot right to the bread basket. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Casey takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
That's one minute gone in the round. A Guy wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Casey checks the leg kick nicely there.
Casey wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. A Guy misses with a body shot.
Casey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. A Guy throws a leg kick but Casey sees it coming and moves out of range. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from A Guy. A Guy's jab looks to have found its range, popping Casey under the eye.
It looks like Alvaro Casey has been cut. A Guy misses with an attempted mid kick.
A Guy gets caught flat footed, as Casey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Casey showing good wrestling skills to control the position. A Guy is looking to stand up but Casey isn't so interested in that idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Casey is stalling in the full guard. Casey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. A Guy is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Casey content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Casey slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Casey scoring with punches to the head and body. Casey stays in close to A Guy's body and controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Casey thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Casey distracts A Guy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Casey working some strikes from top position. Casey is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Casey seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down A Guy for as long as he can get away with. Casey's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Casey content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Casey is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Casey decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on A Guy, up you get! A Guy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Casey is looking to counter with head kicks. A Guy lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! A Guy pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. An attempted straight right counter from Casey misses the target. A Guy lands a slapping body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Just A Guy dominated that round. The cut man is working on Alvaro Casey's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A Guy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Casey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. A Guy is trying to stand back up but Casey is controlling him
Casey is nestled in close to A Guy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. A Guy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Casey scores with a couple of nice shots. Casey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Casey is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, A Guy has managed to free his arm - good work. Casey looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Casey keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Further stalling from Casey. Casey decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Casey gets the takedown into side control. Casey moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Casey continues to stall. Casey has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for A Guy!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Casey landing shots from mount. Casey controlling from mount. If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Casey is stinking the place up with his stalling. Casey mounts A Guy! Really nice guard pass there! Casey controlling from the full mount. Casey is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Casey extends the arm and A Guy is forced to tap!
