PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Day has chosen Last minute - Great day to choke you out as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eric Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Day!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker throws a head kick that misses
and Day counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Walker moves into range and clinches up with Day.
Walker is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Day is defending well for now.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Day has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Walker creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Walker struggles to land a body shot inside as Day controls his hands.
Walker tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Day lands a nice shot to the body.
Walker throws an elbow but it misses.

Day goes for a takedown attempt but Walker pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Day throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker throws a head kick that half lands.
Day throws an overhand right that lands on Walker's shoulder, as Walker tries to avoid the shot.

Day gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Walker's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Walker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Day on the ground.

Day is keen to just control but Walker is a slippery customer.

Day looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Walker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Walker looks like he's trying to stand up.

Day is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Walker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Day.
Walker is staying active underneath Day, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Walker tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Day manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Walker tries to clinch there but Day circles away.
Day swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Day throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Walker on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Walker throws a head kick but Day moves out of range.
Day tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Walker was well out of range. Poor timing from Day.

Walker throws a head kick that Day semi-blocks.
Day has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Day's corner calls for a 1-2. Day obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Eric Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Day fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Day swings wildly with an uppercut but Walker uses good head movement to avoid it.

Day tries to throw a body punch but Walker avoids it by throwing Day back against the cage.
Day works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Day changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Walker fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Walker tries to close the distance and clinch but Day swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Walker is rocked!
Day cracks Walker with a solid left hand.
Oh Walker is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Day trying to control but Walker is working from the bottom.
Day chips away with some ground and pound.
Walker wants to stand but Day is controlling the position.
Gary Day has got the better of the ground game so far.
Day arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Walker's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Gary Day!
