Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alexander Trager! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Artur Aleksanyan! The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trager closes the distance and clinches. Trager drags the fight down to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aleksanyan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Aleksanyan wants to pass the guard but Trager is keeping the position. Aleksanyan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Aleksanyan stopping the sweep attempt from Trager. Aleksanyan is pushing down on Trager's leg trying to pass to half guard. Trager is fighting to maintain full guard but Aleksanyan has managed to sneak the leg through. Trager is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aleksanyan trying to control the action but Trager is working from the bottom. Trager avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Aleksanyan. Aleksanyan wants to free his trapped foot but Trager is holding on for dear life with his legs. Aleksanyan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Trager does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Trager knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aleksanyan on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trager is controlling Aleksanyan's trapped leg to prevent Aleksanyan from advancing to side control. Aleksanyan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Trager doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Aleksanyan. Trager keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trager is not content to let Aleksanyan control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Aleksanyan wants to pass to mount but Trager is defending the position. Aleksanyan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Trager trying to hold on to Aleksanyan's head to control him but Aleksanyan postures up.
Aleksanyan sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Trager defending well though. Aleksanyan has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Trager defend it? Aleksanyan steps over the head and cranks it - Trager is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Aleksanyan!
