PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Frost (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Where is My Mind? by Pixies. Chris Frost acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Frost!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Anthony Taglia and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez throws a combination that misses

and Frost counters with a shoot takedown. Sanchez fights it but they end up in guard.

Frost has gone for a leg lock! Sanchez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Frost's guard.

Sanchez stands and throws Frost's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Sanchez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nice shot lands for Sanchez.
Sanchez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sanchez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Frost.

Sanchez plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Steve Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A right-left combo lands from Sanchez.


It looks like Chris Frost has been cut.
Frost misses with an uppercut

and Sanchez counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Frost!
Frost is not content to let Sanchez control the position.
Sanchez advances nicely into full mount.
Frost told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Sanchez is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Frost defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Sanchez looking to break Frost's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Frost remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sanchez will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
I really don't envy Frost right now.
Frost manages to reverse the position and now he's in Sanchez's guard. Nice work there by Frost.

Frost avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Frost postures up in Sanchez's guard and throws a big left but Sanchez blocks it.

Sanchez has his foot on Frost's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Frost works his way back into a safe position though.
Sanchez controls Frost momentarily but Frost frees himself.

Frost keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sanchez's head.
Sanchez seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Frost in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Frost trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Frost gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Frost doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Frost manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frost can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Frost stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Steve Sanchez will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sanchez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sanchez moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Frost takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sanchez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Frost throws out the jab.
Sanchez lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sanchez.

Frost uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sanchez.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Frost! But no joy.
Sanchez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Frost throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sanchez sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Frost takes one to the side of the head.
Sanchez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

A nice side step and Frost releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Sanchez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Frost moves away.
Sanchez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Frost circles away quickly and effectively.

so Frost counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sanchez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Frost drops back looking for a leg! Sanchez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sanchez manages to kick Frost off! Frost jumps back into Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez throws his legs up looking for a submission but Frost uses it to pass to side control.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Frost lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sanchez down.

Sanchez tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Frost easily slips into full mount!
Frost lands a big shot there that rocks Sanchez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Sanchez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Frost working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sanchez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanchez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Frost is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Frost had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sanchez defends it easily.
Frost is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Frost is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sanchez is just riding it out for now. Frost eventually gives up the hold.

Chris Frost comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
