Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Khaled Hassan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kenji Watanabe! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watanabe wants to clinch but Hassan slips to the side and Hassan counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Watanabe throws a lazy head kick and Hassan counters with a lovely shot to the body. Watanabe looks to clinch and Hassan counters with a right hand to the body. Hassan throws out a powerful jab. Watanabe needs to keep his hands up - Hassan had a free shot at his head there. Watanabe misses the body punch and Hassan counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Hassan scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Watanabe fails to land the takedown. Hassan tries to counter by clinching up but Watanabe breaks away and moves out of range. Watanabe takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Watanabe throws a sloppy head kick and Hassan counters with a left to the body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Watanabe throws a lazy head kick and Hassan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Watanabe throws a head kick that misses and Hassan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Watanabe thinking. Hassan lunges at Watanabe with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Watanabe's hand. Hassan wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Hassan dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Watanabe scores with a takedown into Hassan's guard. Watanabe prevents Hassan from getting back to his feet. Hassan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Watanabe controls the pace. Watanabe stops Hassan from standing up. Watanabe controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hassan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Watanabe is controlling him. Watanabe controlling from the top position. Watanabe passes easily into side control. Nice work. Watanabe decides to take the fight back to the feet. Hassan stalks Watanabe and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Watanabe's face. Watanabe staggers backwards, shaken. Hassan looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A shot to the body from Watanabe misses and Hassan counters with a nice body shot. Hassan lands a body shot.
Watanabe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hassan! Hassan tries to escape but Watanabe is in control. Watanabe controls the position. Watanabe cracks Hassan with a big elbow. Hassan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hassan tries to get out of the position. Hassan tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Watanabe controlling his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Watanabe cracks Hassan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hassan is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Watanabe locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Hassan is forced to tap!
