PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenneth Boone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boone comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hero by Nas featuring Keri Hilson kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenneth Boone!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boone throws a body punch but Johnston moves out of range.
Johnston avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boone misses with a hook. Johnston ducked under it nicely.
Johnston avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boone keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Johnston uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Boone.
Boone shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnston as he jumps to the side.
No joy there for Johnston, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Johnston could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boone wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boone throws a low kick but Johnston avoids it.
Boone tries to clinch but Johnston is having none of it.

Johnston misses with a wild body shot.
Boone tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Johnston was well out of range. Poor timing from Boone.
Johnston is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Johnston throws a right and a left that both miss.
Boone jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Boone avoids a punch combination nicely.

It looks like Kenneth Boone has been cut.
Boone tries to clinch but Johnston moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boone.
Johnston misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Johnston clinches with his opponent.
Johnston wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Johnston breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Boone closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnston circles away.

Boone scores with a one two! Johnston had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Johnston takes one to the chin there.

Boone darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Johnston is trying to stand up here but Boone is controlling him well.

Boone is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boone wants to pass the guard but Johnston is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Boone fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Johnston manages to avoid it.
Kenneth Boone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnston throws a right hand that Boone ducks under and follows up with a left that Boone also avoids with ease.
Boone looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boone closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Johnston misses with a two punch combination.
Johnston throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Boone.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnston drops Boone with a left right combo! Johnston follows him down to the ground into side control.

Boone is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Johnston has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Boone is breathing heavily.

Johnston decides to stand back up. Johnston steps back and let's Boone get back to his feet.
Johnston throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Boone counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Boone slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Boone postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Johnston is pushing Boone's head away, looking to escape. Boone manages to hold on to the position though.
Boone tries to advance to mount but can't.
Johnston is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Boone is controlling him well.

Boone tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Boone misses with the ground and pound.
Johnston tries to escape but Boone is in control.
Johnston knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boone on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Boone changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnston tries to avoid it but Boone manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnston to the ground. Johnston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Boone fails in his attempt to clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Johnston throws the left hand but Boone avoids the punch easily.
Johnston swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Boone slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Johnston tries to clinch but Boone is having none of it.

Johnston instigates a clinch.
Boone fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Don Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenneth Boone.
Boone misses with a punch on the inside.

Johnston escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnston misses with a combination

and Boone counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnston won't be happy with that.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Boone wants to control but Johnston is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Don Johnston will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Kenneth Boone's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Johnston counters with a three punch combo that has Boone backing up. Boone nods at Johnston to acknowledge the strikes.

Johnston swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Boone cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Johnston rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Boone moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Johnston just misses with a punch to the body.
Johnston connects with a right hand. Boone shakes it off.
Boone takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boone thows a body shot but no joy.
Boone has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

A jab-cross combination lands for Johnston and sends Boone crashing to the mat! Johnston follows him down to the mat - Boone regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


That has opened up Kenneth Boone's cut even more.
Boone wants to improve his position but Johnston is controlling well.

Johnston stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Some wild striking there from Johnston.
Boone finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Johnston drops Boone with a left right combo! Johnston follows him down to the ground into side control.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Johnston decides to stand back up.

Johnston fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Johnston counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Johnston looks to land a combination but Boone avoids it well.
Boone falls off balance throwing a combination
and Johnston connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Johnston is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Johnston misses with a few strikes there.
Boone has his takedown stuffed
and Johnston counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.


The cut above Kenneth Boone's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Johnston scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Johnston lands a really nice looking cross but Boone seems unphased.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johnston lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Johnston.

Kenneth Boone's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Don Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenneth Boone.

Johnston wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Boone keeps control of Johnston as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kenneth Boone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Don Johnston is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Don Johnston is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Don Johnston showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnston, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
