Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Patton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lance Hardwood! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patton connects with a looping right hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Patton. Hardwood does a little dance to reset his feet. Hardwood swings for the body but Patton moves out of range.
A big right from Hardwood misses. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Hardwood connects with a nice looking jab.
Hardwood avoids the body shot from Patton.
Hardwood works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Hardwood misses with a jab, cross combination.
Patton missing with a left hand there. Hardwood was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Patton fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. A slow jab from Hardwood misses its intended target. Patton appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Hardwood misses with a wild body shot. Hardwood takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
It looks like Lance Hardwood has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Patton ducks under a wild hook from Hardwood. Hardwood throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Patton sees it coming and avoids it easily. Hardwood cracks the inside of Patton's front leg. Patton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hardwood paws at him with a jab and circles away. Hardwood throws a right hand that Patton ducks under and follows up with a left that Patton also avoids with ease. Hardwood misses with a wild body shot. Hardwood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patton manages to avoid it. Hardwood slips under a jab. Patton misses with a hook. Hardwood looks like he wants to counter punch here. Patton misses with a two punch combination.
Hardwood unleashes a big counter combination but Patton bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Hardwood throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Patton misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hardwood.

Hardwood misses with a hook. Patton ducked under it nicely. Lance Hardwood is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Patton shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Hardwood keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Patton missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Hardwood blocking the ground and pound attempt from Patton. Hardwood is trying to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hardwood is looking to escape. Patton stalling away here and it's allowed Hardwood to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Patton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hardwood is keeping the position for now. Patton trying to control but Hardwood is working from the bottom. Patton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hardwood manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A looping hook to the body misses from Patton. Hardwood does a little dance to reset his feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Patton looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A momentary lapse in concentration from Hardwood enables Patton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hardwood manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Patton distracts Hardwood with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Patton cracks Hardwood with a solid left hand. Patton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Patton throws a strike but Hardwood rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hardwood tries to stand but Patton is controlling from the bottom. Patton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Patton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hardwood wants to stand but Patton is controlling his posture from full guard. Hardwood is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Patton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Patton pulls Hardwood in close to prevent any damage. Patton has a closed guard, preventing Hardwood from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hardwood preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Hardwood won't allow Patton to get back to his feet. Patton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hardwood tries to stand but Patton is controlling from the bottom. Patton looking to control.
Hardwood wants to get up but he can't break Patton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Patton tests Hardwood's chin there with a solid looking shot. Hardwood throws a jab when Patton was well out of range. Hardwood tries a head kick but it misses.
Patton takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Hardwood swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hardwood swats away the attempt to clinch by Patton. Hardwood looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. A good leg kick by Hardwood. Patton shoots in looking for a takedown but Hardwood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Patton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Patton shoots in for a double leg but Hardwood sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Hardwood connects with a crisp jab. Hardwood throws a body punch but Patton moves out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Lance Hardwood will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Lance Hardwood's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Hardwood throws the left hand but Patton avoids the punch easily. Hardwood steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Patton. Patton looks to land a left hand but Hardwood moved out of range nicely. Patton waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hardwood. Hardwood takes one on the button.
Hardwood is rocked! Hardwood walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Patton! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!
