PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rodrick Sherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valentine Hodge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valentine Hodge looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Valentine Hodge!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hodge tries to keep at a distance but Sherman has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hodge looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sherman is trying to break the clinch but Hodge has him pressed against the cage.
Sherman tries to pull guard but Hodge won't allow it.
Hodge drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sherman pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hodge defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sherman.
Hodge changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sherman tries to avoid it but Hodge manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sherman to the ground. Sherman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sherman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hodge pinned against the cage. Hodge gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrick Sherman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sherman decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Sherman wants to get back to striking at distance but Hodge won't allow it.
Sherman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hodge walks away with a smile on his face. Sherman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sherman connects with a nice short shot to Hodge's temple.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sherman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hodge sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sherman somewhat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sherman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Valentine Hodge has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sherman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
