Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darrell Abbott!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott throws a shot from downtown. Augie moves away and avoids it.
Abbott throws a chopping leg kick but Augie manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Abbott jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Abbott pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Abbott ducks under a wild hook from Augie.
Abbott tries to clinch up.
Augie swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Augie throws a jab but it's blocked by Abbott.
Augie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Abbott.
Abbott throws a sloppy head kick and Augie moves out of range easily.
Abbott has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Abbott moves away from the strike by Augie.
Abbott appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

The fighters circle momentarily. Augie darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Abbott pivots, looking for a leg kick but Augie is out of range and Abbott settles back down.
DJ Augie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Augie connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Abbott's hands.
Augie steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Abbott. That one must have hurt.
Augie looks for a takedown but Abbott sprawls well.

Abbott throws a leg kick but Augie checks it.
Augie shoots in looking for a takedown. Abbott tries to sprawl out of it but Augie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Abbott manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Augie drops his hands momentarily and Abbott takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Augie throws a shot from downtown. Abbott moves away and avoids it.
Abbott has a takedown stuffed.
Augie fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Abbott looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Augie lands with an uppercut that bounces Abbott off the cage and back into range.
Augie thows a left - swing and a miss!
Abbott looks to land a right hand but Augie moved out of range.
Augie closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Abbott lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Abbott.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nice uppercut lands for Abbott. That snapped Augie's head back.
Abbott slips a straight right by Augie.
Abbott tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Augie swivels and escapes.
Augie throws the left hand but Abbott avoids the punch easily.
Abbott throws a nice outside leg kick.
Abbott scores with the left hand. Augie knows he should have avoided that one.
Abbott tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Augie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Abbott to the ground. Augie is now in Abbott's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Augie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Abbott has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Augie is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Abbott.
We've been hearing good reports from Augie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Abbott. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

DJ Augie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Abbott is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Augie is aware though and is defending well.

Abbott pushes a forearm under Augie's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Augie is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
