PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Adriano Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mcmannus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adriano Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Mcmannus!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mcmannus tries to clinch up.
Silva avoids the head kick by Mcmannus.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mcmannus is defended easily by Silva.
Silva throws out a loose jab but Mcmannus uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mcmannus lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Mcmannus throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Silva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Silva throws a looping overhand right but Mcmannus ducks down to avoid it.
Silva throws a nice outside leg kick.
Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mcmannus counters with a series of strikes. Silva will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcmannus is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Mcmannus shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Mcmannus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A shot to the body from Silva misses
and Mcmannus counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Silva moves into range and clinches up with Mcmannus.

Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Adriano Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Mcmannus.

Mcmannus with the counter takedown but Silva avoids it easily.
Silva throws a lazy uppercut
and Mcmannus makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mcmannus shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Mcmannus throws a body kick that misses

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mcmannus won't be happy with that.
Silva remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Silva scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mcmannus to see if he's OK.

Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Silva is staying tight to Mcmannus's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Mcmannus is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Mcmannus wants to control but Silva postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Silva drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Silva definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Mcmannus is trying to get back to half guard.
Mcmannus takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva lands a nice forearm strike.
Silva controls the position.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mcmannus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mcmannus tries to bench press Silva off him but Silva keeps the position.
Mcmannus is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.

Silva tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mcmannus wants to get back to his feet but Silva drags him back down.

Mcmannus tries to improve position but can't.

Silva is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mcmannus can do to turn this around?
You can see the frustration on Mcmannus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Silva decides to stand back up. Silva steps back and let's Mcmannus get back to his feet.
Silva connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mcmannus momentarily.
Mcmannus wants to clinch.

Mcmannus looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mcmannus tries to clinch up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mcmannus or perhaps it was just good defense by Silva, which made it look bad.
James Mcmannus seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mcmannus dives in and grabs Silva's left leg, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes down on Mcmannus's head and hops out.
Silva tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Mcmannus manages to circle out of the way.

Silva fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mcmannus manages to avoid it.
Mcmannus avoids a punch combination nicely.
Silva throws a series of punches but Mcmannus avoids them all with ease.

Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mcmannus circles away quickly and effectively.
Mcmannus gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Silva counters with a slapping leg kick.
Mcmannus is breathing heavily.
Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mcmannus moves away.
Silva fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mcmannus has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Silva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva controls the position.

Silva stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Mcmannus with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Silva looks for a takedown but Mcmannus sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adriano Silva dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Silva shoots in for a takedown but Mcmannus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Silva crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mcmannus - the referee stops the clock and Silva gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mcmannus. Silva manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Mcmannus uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Silva.

Mcmannus looking to score a takedown here. Silva is defending well but Mcmannus drives through and ends up in Silva's guard.

Silva pushes Mcmannus off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Mcmannus fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Silva avoids it really well and circles away.
Silva was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Mcmannus misses with an attempted mid kick.
Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mcmannus was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva.

Mcmannus tries to clinch but Silva moves out of range.
Mcmannus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mcmannus keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mcmannus tries to clinch there but Silva circles away.
Silva blocks the body kick.
Silva connects with a good right hand that stumbles Mcmannus. Mcmannus circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Mcmannus checks the leg kick nicely there.
Mcmannus fails with the takedown.
Adriano Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Mcmannus.
Mcmannus moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.
Mcmannus fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mcmannus takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Mcmannus takes one to the side of the head.
Mcmannus fails to land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mcmannus ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mcmannus looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well.
Silva throws a jab but it's blocked by Mcmannus.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcmannus enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcmannus manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Silva controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Silva drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mcmannus dives on top into guard.


Silva is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Mcmannus frees his head nicely. Oh but Silva has switched to an armbar! Mcmannus is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
