Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ceoghan Cartwright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jari Byczynski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cartwright comes to the cage accompanied by Disciples of Power - Born Unto Death. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ceoghan Cartwright! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jari Byczynski! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Ben Watson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Byczynski gets tackled into the cage by Cartwright. Cartwright maintains the clinch. Cartwright definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Cartwright changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Byczynski fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Byczynski swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Cartwright. Byczynski stuffs the takedown. A big left from Byczynski misses. Byczynski displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cartwright. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ceoghan Cartwright. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cartwright uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Byczynski. Byczynski has managed to clinch.

Byczynski avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cartwright. Cartwright has his takedown stuffed and Byczynski counters with a right hand to the body. Cartwright shoots in but Byczynski avoids the takedown attempt easily. Cartwright might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cartwright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cartwright won't allow Byczynski to sweep him here. Cartwright trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cartwright throwing strikes from guard but Byczynski blocks nicely. Cartwright is looking to work some ground and pound but Byczynski has wrist control. Cartwright throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Byczynski works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Byczynski is looking for the big counter here. Cartwright shoots in looking for a takedown but Byczynski manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cartwright's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Byczynski throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Cartwright feinted with a counter takedown. Cartwright takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. A punch combination from Byczynski misses. Cartwright shoots in and drives through. Byczynski sprawls well. Cartwright closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cartwright lands in his opponent's guard. Cartwright with a nice head shot there. Cartwright wants to control from the top but Byczynski keeps moving. This has been an exciting period of action! Byczynski is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Jari Byczynski dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Byczynski looks to score with a jab to the body but Cartwright is just out of range. A shot to the liver by Byczynski. Beautiful body shot. Cartwright tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Byczynski paws at him with a jab and circles away. Byczynski lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cartwright circles away quickly and effectively. Cartwright doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Cartwright tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Byczynski manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Cartwright tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Byczynski defends well and Cartwright ends up having to push Byczynski into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Byczynski circles away from the clinch attempt.
Byczynski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Byczynski has been the more effective fighter overall so far. I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Cartwright has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cartwright postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Cartwright scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Byczynski is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cartwright slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Cartwright is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Byczynski defends well. Cartwright is looking for a triangle but Byczynski pushes his legs off easily.
Ceoghan Cartwright overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Byczynski got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cartwright has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Byczynski has managed to get both his arms back between Cartwright's legs - danger averted. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cartwright will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cartwright tries to bench press Byczynski off him but Byczynski keeps the position.
