Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Shanks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimi Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Powell's choice of entrance music: 8 Mile. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mickey Shanks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimi Powell!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Powell throws a series of strikes that have Shanks backpedaling.
Shanks stuffs the takedown attempt from Powell. Powell gets slowly back to his feet.
Shanks lands a nice leg kick that just misses Powell's sensitive parts.
Powell slips under a jab from Shanks.
Shanks lands with a straight right. Powell didn't see that one coming.
Powell throws a lazy uppercut
enabling Shanks to counter with a crisp jab.

Powell has closed the distance and engaged Shanks in a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Shanks.
Powell blocks an elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shanks fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Shanks tries to throw a body punch but Powell avoids it by throwing Shanks back against the cage.

Shanks throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Powell has picked Shanks up - he's going for a ride! Powell dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Powell is thwarting Shanks's attempts to control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Powell in particular looking to stall.
Shanks is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Powell jumps into side control!
Shanks gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Powell connects with a nice short shot to Shanks's temple.

Powell lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Powell winds up and cracks Shanks with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Shanks tries to get to full guard but Powell has control of the leg.
Powell thows a huge punch but Shanks dodges it nicely.

Shanks keeping moving, preventing Powell from controlling successfully.
Shanks wants to sweep here but Powell controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's time! Shanks's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Powell stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Shanks.
Shanks fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Powell has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Powell swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Shanks.
Shanks with a nice cross.
Nice sprawl there from Shanks as Powell shoots in.
Shanks fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Powell darts in and clinches Shanks up against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Shanks.
Powell throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Shankss head.
Powell softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Shanks is pressed up against the cage. Powell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shanks down to the mat. Shanks avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Powell drops his hands momentarily and Shanks takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Shanks cracks the inside of Powell's front leg.
Shanks with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Powell to score with a decent uppercut.

Jimi Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shanks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
As Powell backs away, Shanks returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Powell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Powell throws a leg kick but Shanks moved away.
Shanks loads up on a big right hand but Powell slips the punch.
Shanks cracks Powell with an open hand slap.


Powell is rocked!
Powell lands a really nice looking cross but Shanks seems unphased.
Shanks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Shanks throws a head kick but Powell moves out of range.
Shanks looks to throw the jab but Powell is out of range.

Shanks cracks Powell with an uppercut from hell and Powell crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Shanks's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Powell is still in real trouble! Can Shanks finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shanks trying to control the position from guard on top but Powell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shanks sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Powell's guard.
Powell seems to have recovered his senses.
Powell looks like he's trying to stand up.

Shanks is looking to stall here but Powell recovers full guard.

Shanks passes Powell's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Shanks is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Powell sees it coming and defends easily.
Powell is staying active underneath Shanks, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Shanks is looking for submissions but instead, Powell has regained full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shanks is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Powell is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Shanks counters with a low kick, right behind Powell 's knee.
Powell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Shanks stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Shanks gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Shanks is pressed up against the cage. Powell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shanks down to the mat. Shanks avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mickey Shanks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimi Powell.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Powell checks a leg kick.
Powell misses with a hook.
Powell connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
We've been told by Shanks's head coaches at LOD: Lightning Kicks (MaxID266K) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Powell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shanks was well out of range. Poor timing from Powell.
Powell throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shanks is keen to just control but Powell is a slippery customer.

Jimi Powell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shanks is stalling here. Powell is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Shanks seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Powell has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Powell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shanks's head.
Shanks makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shanks.
Powell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Powell throws a big right hand that misses.
Shanks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Powell's guard.

Shanks stops Powell from standing up.
Shanks works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Shanks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Powell has managed to free his arm - good work.

Shanks is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Powell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shanks.
Powell is refusing to be controlled, as Shanks sits in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mickey Shanks showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Shanks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
