The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stephens tries to clinch but Olvera moves out of range. Stephens avoids the body shot from Olvera.
Olvera closes the distance and clinches. Olvera tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stephens smiles and moves away.
Stephens tries to clinch up. Olvera closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Olvera is looking to take a break and control but Stephens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Stephens wants to control but Olvera is keeping busy and won't allow it. Olvera sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Stephens defending well though. Stephens wants to get back to full guard. Olvera perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Stephens moves into full guard.

Olvera won't allow Stephens to sweep him here. Olvera controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Olvera is breathing heavily. Stephens pulls Olvera in close to prevent any damage. Olvera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Stephens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Olvera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Olvera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Olvera has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Olvera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. An inside leg kick from Olvera misses. Stephens is looking to clinch. Olvera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stephens but Stephens pushes him off and we're back to square one. Olvera could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Stephens doesn't manage to clinch there - Olvera circles away.
Olvera wants to clinch up but Stephens keeps it at a distance. Olvera closes the distance and clinches. Olvera tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stephens just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BG Olvera. That's going to take a lot out of him. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Olvera takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Stephens successfully pulls guard.
Olvera connects with a couple of short punches. Olvera stays in close to Stephens's body and controls the position. Olvera tries to stand but Stephens is controlling from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stephens looking for a guillotine here but Olvera defends easily.
Stephens being controlled here, momentarily. Olvera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stephens is keeping the position for now. Stephens bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Olvera's guard. Olvera has control of Stephens's left arm, preventing Stephens from doing any damage. Olvera wants to stand and escape but Stephens is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that BG Olvera will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Olvera closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Olvera lands in his opponent's guard. Olvera trying to control the position from guard on top but Stephens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stephens not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Stephens looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Stephens wants to get back to full guard. Stephens wants to control but Olvera is keeping busy and won't allow it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Stephens tries to get to full guard but Olvera has control of the leg. Stephens is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Stephens with a poor takedown and Olvera counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Stephens has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Olvera doesn't defend quickly enough and Stephens has managed to lock this one up! Can Olvera escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Stephens on a fantastic submission victory.
